CNN is getting too much fluff if you ask me. Too many celebrities and such.

since when do we have celebrities telling us how to live our lives . Celebrities are people who can't hold real jobs.

Fox News is biased. But any weenie can see through the bias and draw their own moderate conclusions.

So aside from NBC nightly news and sometimes headline news (which is CNN- but much quicker ), I watch Fox News.

it's interesting to note most of these protests occur when the government does something to try and whitewash history. the last major protest was when japan's ministry of education approved textbooks which made little mention of japan's occupation of northeast asia, and when it did, painted it as a good thing.
and please, don't group me or most other south koreans with all of those crazies who decide hurting themselves is a good way to protest. it's insulting.

I'm hardly an apologist for Japan's past; Japan certainly has issues it needs to deal with, particularly its rather suspect examination of its own history. That being said, I've come to the conclusion that South Korean and Chinese actions are unreasonable and are exacerbating the problem far more than the actions (or lack of action) on the Japanese side. Fearing a remilitarized Japan is understandable and I would never criticize other East Asians for feeling that way. Protesting Japanese peacekeeping operations and other non-threatening actions is completely absurd, however, and I'll be damned if I'm going to give South Korean and Chinese protestors a free ride on this issue because of actions that took place a half-century ago. Japanese atrocities in WWII don't justify South Korean and Chinese idiocy today.

Mao did one good thing for China: he brought political unity, which provides a base for China's eventual renaissance. But I do not honor him for anything after 1949. He broke everything he touched from there onwards.

It's like Stalin, in a way - would Russia have withstood Germany without Stalin? History can be cruel at times.

The Yasukuni Shrine honors over 2.5 million Japanese war dead, 14 of which are Class A war criminals. I fail to see how the questionable inclusion of a handful of sinful men negates the greater purpose of the shrine. I certainly don't think PM Koizumi is going there to honor just those 14...

if that's the idiocy you speak of, perhaps you ought to realize not all koreans would go so far as to do that. nor would all chinese. if they did, few koreans would be able to play starcraft as well as they did.

in fact, for you to call a very valid korean concern idiocy simply because of the actions of an extremely select few... does that not itself smack of idiocy? just as how one wouldn't judge all of the american population on those media whores on realitv, you can't assume that all of korea has an idiotic and baseless concern because a few nutjobs are willing to cut of their fingers to spite their hands.

those 14 class a war criminals were added to the records secretly, and have not been removed. that's mainly what the non-japanese protest. is there something wrong with that?

Japan does not have a good record - and Korea and China are far from forgetting it.

Just saw the commercial on CNN and I can't for the life of me figure out the point. It highlights the actions of Japanese peacekeepers over the last ten years, especially their current action in East Timor. Why in the hell does the Japanese government feel the need to justify their peacekeeping operations in the US? We don't have an irrational fear of them like certain other nations (who shall remain nameless).
