Because while Agathon has strong opinions that disagree with yours, he is not a fool: your attempt tp undermine what he says by calling hima fool then is a debating strategy.

As for Faux News: I always laugh when i see one of their posters: fair and balanced, we report, you decide... Left or Right, Faux has the mosty biased newscasters around, regularly givng their opinons on the air. Tha is not unbiased journalism. As far as using Faux as a source, i look only at those things that can be called quantifable facts in their stories, skip everything else.

Typified by use of the phrase "I have the right to say absolutely anything I want and if you find it offensive it's your fault!!!!!" after posting something astonishingly foul and mindless. Followed shortly after by a banning, after which they return to use all means possible to demonstrate what a heroic martyr to the cause of liberty they are, and how they have been silenced by the evil censors. Then they announce that the site no longer provides sufficient levels of intellectual stimulation and that they are leaving forever. Then they come back. Then they start noticing that girl's chests are different to theirs and ****ing get over it.

Who does this?- There have been far, far too many of the tedious little jerks to name.

Oh come on, I was half joking but Fox News is terrible. It's biased and sleazy. CNN is better, but not by that much. Ann Coulter is clearly deranged and suffering from a sort of persecution mania.

I'll admit that the Guardian is biased to the left, but at least it is in an intelligent way, just as A & L Daily is slightly to the right and still thoughtful.

All I'm saying is that the Rush Limbaughs of this world are not to be taken seriously while intelligent right wing columnists are.

The retro-chic "Jewish conspiracy". I think we all know who I mean.

The ever popular "Haven't read any part of the thread, not even the opening post" response. Makes no sense at all.

My tactic, the "Fishing" post. I place a small innocuous post with a snide comment. When somebody challenges me, I justify my comment with a large, intimidating, post. Of course, sometimes this backfires.

Another tactic is the "Amazing fact attack". This involves dropping an little known fact which tips up all the assumptions that were being used prior to the post.

What about straying-the-arguement-off-topic attack? I get suckered by those alot. I start by arguing that Black kitty is indeed black and I end up at a disadvantageous position of being accused of having said black men are inferior or something ridiculous..

Or mutiple-topic-arguement-attack.

You start arguing about whether apples are delicious or not, and you're opponent accuses you of having contradicted your own statement. Now you and your buddy ends up arguing accusing/defending the contradictory statement and now all of sudden you have 2 unresolved topic to argue about. Increase the number slowly and you'll soon be confused!

no-response strategy

Has anyone mentioned this? This one drives me nuts if I have them nailed down and they simply dont respond.

Here's one that some people use. Apologies if anyone has listed it.

I suppose one could call it the "questions wind-up".

To the person whom with you are arguing you ask brief questions that demand long replies to which you ask multiple brief questions which demand long replies upon long replies and so on....

If done sensibly this is of course a reasonable way to conduct a debate. On the other hand if your aim is to get your opponent to spend his or her whole day working for your personal amusement producing screeds and screeds of information you have not the slightest intent to respond seriously to, then it is a very bad thing to do.

It is like the "multiplying topics" strategy, but it doesn't really go off topic.
