In RL, working with my associates, I have adopted a phrase (from my fiance and her sister) that goes a long way to short-cutting communication: "I am passionate about this issue." That means 'back off, I'll fight tooth and nail on this one, so let's just agree on this one viewpoint, and move on.'
We need this type of communication tool here in the ISDG... and people have to respect it. In the absence of such, we have now had two defections that hurt.
I know Beta posted this with a bit of levity, but I propose a new phrase(s), which may look a little funny but could be helpful.
"Banana serious" or "banana important."
I am not joking.... there are players on this team for whom I have tremendous (!) respect, and if they propose something related to their individual area of expertise, even if not fully articulated, they should be able to say BANANA! and the rest of us back off and consider their position just on trust.
Obviously, not something to be abused... and I trust all to respect that.
Maybe a little silly, but, hey,
APOLYTON SPIRIT!

The thing is, how many other "nasty-grams" have these people been (or will be) sending out to Elected and Appointed Officials. I have a fairly thick skin and would likely tell them to go and F... themselves, but I'm also not doing something that would tie up my passions and own personal time, especially when there are better things to do.
This will undoubtidly put a very unwanted strain on this game and our team. I would not be surprised if a few more people leave over this thing. I know I might reduce my participation because of it, because why should I work with others that don't really appreciate what I have to bring to this game.

E-T, I guess my point is that we should (and do, I hope) all appreciate each others contributions (wait till you see what I can do with mixed-unit Armis ).

Theseus, I agree that we all have things that we can contribute to this effort (and hopefully win). THere are times that I will likely completely disagree with a position, but I will post in an open manner, to help persude my oppenent to my point of view (and his supporters) or to allow them to do the same to me (and my supporters) or maybe even reach a compomise solution. But this is all done in an open manner to the public, because I have learned from the SPDG and even here, that I (or even everyone else) don't know everything about this game and there is always something new that we can try to use that will make us stronger.
The use of "nasty-grams", IMVHO, is a low, underhanded practice. It leaves things in the background, out of public eye and it can weight heavily on a persons (the receiver's) well being and enthusiasm. Those two things can be killed quickly with just the wrong words at the wrong time.
This whole matter has left a bad taste in my mouth about this whole game/team. I will wait and see what happens in the next few weeks.

Individual contributions are moved by a passionate desire to contribute. The Maps, for instance... Reddawg and his statistics, Shiber studying the complex web of deals, long time before he becomes the FAM... Arnelos and Meshelic building parties, and adding ideological substance to those parties...lots of examples. AND the Jungle Gazette. I’m talking about C3DG events. Non governmental agencies, if you know what I mean...
Individuals are the core of our community, respecting the rules & laws, respecting the other members. Democracy needs individuals making their own roles and projects.
No hard feelings about bigfree, please, but we can't allow this. UnOrthOdOx can’t go. . He's is a legend, a very skilled man, and what he did in the C3DG can't be measured. And I like him.
To bigfree:
I'm sure you're a good guy (a little nervous, maybe... nothing wrong with that), if you permit me to say... no offense, please!
But some of those guys around are great contributors in many fora: strategies, graphics, mods, newspapers, maps (what's wrong with a little advertisement? ), democratic organization, rules and laws, tales, leadership. Could be wise to look for some info before start to fight battles based on 2 or 3 lines posted…
Be cool.
