I don't think they smoked pot until we brought it to the New World. Even then, I've heard stories about a white dude who got his ass kicked because he added pot to the pipe during a sweat. (This occurred recently.)

Plaines Indians also had roles in society for homosexuals. Men could become wives, and lesbian warriors could take wives.

In Iroquoi society, all men had the vote, but the village women could despose any leaders they felt weren't doing a good job.

The Shawnee didn't pratice war until the arrival of the horse. When attacked by neighboring tribes, they would run away. When the horse culture came, they became some of the fiercest warriors on the plaines.

The Hopi felt that anyone who accumlated more than a person could reasonbly have was an evil spirit, and they would send him away.
