That's not good news. As I've said before and I'll say again: I am *NOT* forking over thousands of dollars for a computer system that can't even support the *one* game I enjoy. Namely, Civilization. Furthermore, the latest iMacs being shipped no longer can boot into the Classic mode, either, so that keeps me from playing Civ II, no?
Fine. I can take my discretionary income elsewhere. Where's Asher? I need to ask about PC system specs ...

you should still be able to run classic through OS X(I do not know how well Civ2 works in classic mode, since i'm having a hard time finding a copy since i switched), all you have to have is OS 9 installed on the hard drive and OS X will run it through classic mode, which as far as i am aware works with just about everything now.
But as far as being able to directly boot into OS 9, i do not think you can do that now no. But everything that you do need OS 9 for should be able to run it through classic. Like i said i have not tried Civ2 in classic, has anyone?

Not only will new iMacs still boot into OS 9, but Civ II plays perfectly well under Classic.
OS 9 Install CDs are a dime a dozen on eBay, and IIRC they're $20 from Apple.

Hmm ... y'know, a faint glimmer of hope within me is banking on the possibility that this was yet another miscommunication; IOW, the right hand doesn't necessarily know what the left hand is doing.
Dojoboy, who did you speak to? Was it a public relations type person, or someone actually involved with the PtW port (or other related programming endeavors)? I'm curious because I know departments w/i the same company don't always know what another department is doing — i.e., if you called my employer, got the advertising department and then proceeded to ask an editorial question, you'd likely get the wrong information (or, more likely, be transferred ... but it all depends on the time of day and who's in editorial when the call comes in).
Bradman, are you saying you've heard nothing about the cancelation of the Civ III PtW port for the Mac? I so hope that this is true, that it was all a miscommunication.

The Destineer buyout of MacSoft did nothing but increase the odds of Mac PTW, but by the same token that does not necessarily mean that it is happening. Until you see a public announcement from MacSoft one way or the other, I think it is safe to assume that the status is undetermined. Beyond that, I'm not in a position to say - that's entirely in MacSoft's PR realm.
