Turn 31 Tired of ads?

To be edited by the Consuls and Ministers.

Status:
- Researching Warrior Code at 80%, ready in 7 turns.
- Luxury Slider at 20%
- 31 gold cash, -2 gpt.

Urgent questions:

Military:
Bigfree the Warrior suggest 2, and then 1.
Alva the Warrior pop the hut, it's the right thing to do.
Theseus the Warrior fortified in Apolyton.
W5 back towards Poly and the settler?

Economy:
Apolyton building a barracks. change back to settler! (if we pop the hut, then we pop the hut first and change the production back to settler only afterwards - makes it possible to get a settler from the hut).

Workers
Worker Dan mining (3rd turn).

Diplomacy:
CDG: NAP in effect. Tech swap in effect; we give WC and Wheel for IW.
GCA: NAP in effect (fm Turn 29). Negotiating future tech swap.

---

Discussion and basic reporting to follow. See the topped thread for comprehensive results.

nye, you should have put that shot of the turn in here instead of in the 'turn 30' thread. I hate having more than one thread talking about the same thing.

That wouldn't be exactly where I'd want it, but we could produce a Warrior or two and make it a worker factory, one every 10 turns. Or we could try to get a Settler produced from it, and abandoning it.

GCA's Capitol has been at size 1 since turn 23 (now turn 31.) I think you only need 10 food stores to grow to 2. So either they are emphasizing production for a bit or they produced a worker on the same turn they grew. Any other thoughts on this?

Apolyton should change back to Settler next turn no matter what we decide to do with the Hut.

Put an end to popups!

I think that is a given, his only question was whether or not to pop the hut this turn or not. I'm sure he wasn''t thinking of wasting shields/delaying the Settler just because we delay popping the hut.

It's possible for anyone, Trip, just lots less likely for us non-diplomatic-with-rock-club-waver-types.

::sniffs with interest at the mountain west of City Site 1::

Too bad we won't have a scout freed up to peer over there anytime soon, unless we're willing to have our 'poly warrior run double-barbarian interference (Just sit him in the road in the middle) for a brief time while Theseus checks out that mountain? (Phrased that way because I don't think people will want that degree of risk- I think it's a good idea. :P )

Is there any way that we can send BigFurryWarrior to that mountain 4-4 of him without too much danger to our settler..?
That will give a GREAT view of the lands that CDG is going to settle.

Yes, pop the hut. And regardless of if we get a settler or not we should be building a settler at Appolyon unless we think CDG is about to declare war on us.

(1 warrior / 2 cities) + Barb

Is that a good equation?

Barbs will zoom to an ungarrisoned city.

We have a road between the two cities- we can beat the barb to whichever one he tries to go to, and the "shuffle dance" would only last a few turns while we checked out Western Mountain and came back.

We're going to pop the hut.

Even if the worst case scenario occurs and we lose the settler/city, we're still up from where we are/were.

We can either have W5 do double-duty for 4 additional turns and continue moving W4 'Theseus' for another couple turns, or we can turn back now and only have W5 covering 'Poly and the Settler for 1 turn.

What should we do?

Trip, in your MoW order you said to move WAlva "9 (NorthEast)." It's supposed to be NorthWest if we are to pop the hut. That's what we want to do right?

Get a bigger avatar today!

Take some risk, have the single warrior do double duty while the other at least pokes his head onto the mountain. Let's find out what's west of us- in the highly unlikely event there's grassland over there, it could change things a lot. At the very least, there might be a hut....

Pop the hut: right.

Go Northwest: wrong. The hut is NE from warrior Alva.

I noticed that we want to move 'W4 Theseus' west. If you mean our western warrior (aka 'cowboy') west - fine. But I think the warrior in Apolyton was named 'Theseus'.
Someone made a mistake here.

or hope we get a settler. or a city. or Ceremonial Burial. or gold. or a map.

Nothing like positive thinking.

Or we could leave it for a Persian to potentially wander by and pop and be sure not to get anything at all. Even getting a map is better than that.

Move W5 further away from Apolyton and the settler?

Scenario A. Settler moves and finds a barb adjacent to his site. Bang. We might as well pack it at that point. Finding CDG there would be worse. They would most likely take the opportunity to cripple us and gain slaves.

Scenario B. WTheseus scrambles to City 1 because the barb is 8 of there. The barb moves back towards Poly. WTheseus shuttles back to Poly, but does not have fortification bonus when attacked. The barb attacks. We get unlucky. We lose WThesus and a bunch of gold.

Are there many of you who truely want to play this in such a reckless fashion?

I support nye's careful, "better-safe-than-sorry" approach. Moving the exploring warrior further westwards is an unnecessary risk. All we might gain would be earlier knowledge of the terrain... but how exactly we would use this knowledge? And would we alter our plans even if there was a new El Dorado there? I cannot see anything preventing us from gaining the knowledge few turns later...

Just like in the SPDG, people usually vote for excitement and war, rather than boring moves and event-less turns. It is hard to show the patience we all normally do in our sp games when you are playing vicariously via the team and forum.

I sure hope this doesn't get the best of the ones who are running this game then. I would rather play safe at the moment since I want to win. I don't think we should take unneccesary risks just because the game is "too boring"

Full PM-box? Change here!

If the GCA Warrior fortified next to WBigFree that could be contrued as a violation of the NAP with GCA. That Warrior is 'blocking' a move to the East. I know thart we don't want to move that way, but what if we did? We should let GCA know that they should keep a tile between their units from WBigFree. 'Shadowing' our unit and preventing him from making a certain directional movement violates our NAP.

I would be in favor of sending a 'mildly' worded message that such actions are not to keenly looked upon. No reason to let them get the idea that what they did is just fine with us.

Well I don't want to ruffle feathers really. I don't think their "blocking" movement is really going to hinder us. If it does, then we can remind them, but I really am hoping to get relations with them to pick up and I feel that reminding them about this, even though it is a term of our treaty, might set things backwards slightly.
