No, because proving such crimes would be impossible - this will result to cases where someone hit's a guy and guy claims to to gay to get tougher punishment to the offender.

It's a sad thing that these Hate crimes happen and we'd all be better off without them. However, when laws are made around such equality areas there a tendancy for tose involved to be treat in a favourable manner by the PC police hence and bogus claims bieng put in. for this reason i voted no, the answer is greater society awareness and making it socially unacceptable to be homophobic.
Legislation can be useful, but when it is taken too far the effects are negative, In Britain the current laws around race hate attakcs have sadly been so far that now the extreme right wing has gained support.

i think that if any person, whether gay or straight, is attacked then i think we have enough laws in place already to deal with that. we don't want the situation where someone gets into a fight in a pub, gets a kicking, turns out he's gay, he then claims he was attacked because he was gay. i can well imagine some people using such a 'hate crime' law in this way.

Well you sure as hell are a flamer though, and have already lied about that. Not an insult, just my observation of your character.
By the way, don't try to act so stunned and surprised to certain responses. It's comically shallow, and you damn well expected it.

When you start pushing a ridiculuos topic pertaining to how hard done by you are. Listen, I've had plenty of ILLEGAL things happen to me, simply because the said criminals hated my personality (totally legal aspects of it, mind you). Should I get a personal hate-crime law legislated to protect myself, or run around demanding extra authority be dispatched in defence like some indignant princess?
I deal with it. Everyone deals what they're given with the SAME SET OF LAWS everyone else gets.

Dude, I said MAYBE. Because I saw that be done to me or my friends by gay people more than once. I was just mentioning a point.
Hoe many times have I seen gay people come on to straight people even if they KNOW that that person is not gay. How annoying is that.
I dont ming gay guys, really, but dont grab my ass or tigh or you'll get your ass kicked. I dont call that a hate crime, I call that teaching manners.
I dont go around grabbing girls ass or whatever....and as soon as a gay guy gets hits for any reason he usualy turns it into:" OH! you fu**ing gay hater, I'll press charges against you...." and so on. I say shut up, you deserved it.
If you feel attacked by waht I just said you are probably one of those gay people, if you aren't I'd be glad to have you in my environment.
You see my point?

Good God, tell me the above example isn't actually a case of labeled hate-crimes?

Nah... I actually have two LONG time friends who turned out to be Gay, work with a few others at a coffee shop and have a blast with them all the time, and generally love being immersed in the non-complaining aspects of the culture.
Some gays are just so tied up in indignant thought and irrational accusation that I have no problem calling them queers, or fagg0ts. Keep in mind those terms are not synonamous with being homosexual, just used to describe the few hyper liberal, schizo as*holes who have hijacked a huge portion of gay political culture as of late.
As by your definition you've called me a biggot, I guess I can call you by mine a faggg0t - you fagg0t.
Oh, I imagine you'd like to point out how hard my gay buddies must have it with a "friend" like me? The best friend (who is actually bi) knows well how I feel, and laughingly agrees. He'd probably have a much harsher name for you, but we're on an eye for an eye basis right now, as it seems. Care to raise the pile?

Don't apologize. You meant, and still mean what you said - are you trying to avoid moderator action, or something? Don't worry, I don't take that as offending - just cute

These laws may be creating the opposite result of what is wanted.
The definite cure is to educate society in such a way that these opinions don't exist anymore.
Even in ancient Athens, if you read Symposium by Plato, the opinion of the population towards this peculiarity was negative. Something that Plato critizes.
And of course In Sparta they were executed. (together with all people with deformities)

this is how i see it, for all groups infact. slurs (racial, or whatever) always represent the extremes of a group, and by calling a person that, you are aligning them with the extreme (and usually unliked for some reason) section of the group.
are some whites honkeys? sure. are some gays fagg0ts? sure. are some black people niggers? sure.
but not everyone in a group is, and thats what ignorant people seem to miss.
as for hate crimes, i don't see the reason for harsher penalities myself. every crime is an act of hate, itsn't it? if i kill you because you raped my sister, it's because i hate what you did.
are you trying to say that hate like that can be justified, but hating you for who (or what you are) cannot?

god, i really loved the spartans.
from a paper i wrote:
quote: Many centuries ago, the societies of the world were quite different than their current brethren. In the days of ancient Sparta, the elite of Spartan society (the Homoioi) would take all their infants immediately after birth, and inspect them to see if they had the “traits” most suited to be one of the warrior elite of the Spartans. If not, the babies were left in mountain caverns to die. Back then, it was commonplace, while today people would be morally outraged if anything of the sort had occurred nearby. Hypocrisy runs high in society though, as new-age science of eugenics rises. Eugenics is the process of fertilizing multiple female eggs with multiple male sperm, and then looking at the genetic makeup of the fertilized eggs. This is often used when families have a good chance for heredity diseases, because children can be chosen that have a less chance of inheriting it, or no chance what so ever. What people overlook is the “other”, “lesser” zygotes sitting under the microscope, the zygotes that “don’t make the cut”, and get thrown into the trash (or possibly stem cell research). One may easily compare modern eugenics to the Spartan “selection”, but far less people are outraged about it. |
