Just to be fair, the other team in question and the UN at 1BigOne.com should be informed of the situation as well. But I agree with GodKing, there is no reason he should be out for the whole game. Basically all he got out of it (I would assume) is map info. Once apolyton has an accurate world map, he should be able to come back in.
And personally, I don't see any reason he can't continue as an observer until then as long as he doesn't participate in game related discussions on the forum. Though I'd stay out of the chat room to avoid temptation if I was him.

Oh and if the other team he viewed happened to be either CDG or GCA, then maybe he won't have to sit out all that long...they couldn't know that much that we don't already regarding the map.

I started a new thread titled "Apolyton Announcement, and Discussion Please" at 1BC.
Given that it is late - I used two of nye's posts to creat eit. It reads as follows:

"Some Unfortunate News
Aeson PMed me to let me know that he had had a problem.
He is involved with the GotM at CFC and as such goes through large numbers of saved games, examining them for what ever it is they look for.
At any rate, one of our saves got mixed in with those and he opened it... thus getting a view of another team.
He PMed me to let me know, to inform me that he had withdrawn from the ISDG group, and resigned from our team.
This is a major loss."
And then this update shortly after:
"Update:
After exchanging messages with Aeson the following points should be considered.
1. After the incident, he immediately removed himself from the group and informed me of the situation.
2. He is so concerned about revealing any information, he will not even tell me which other team's position he saw. He will inform mongoose, who can inform the effected team
What is important is that we find out when and under what circumstances that other team and all of the teams in general would be content with Aeson rejoining us.
I think that the issue should be put out for general discussion at the UN. There are bound to be many questions."
So - hat's off to Aeson for his honest and noble behaviour. We at Apolyton have publicly declared this matter. As notyoueither has stated, we would now very much like your views on how and when Aeson may rejoin our team.

We should do our best to try to keep Aeson around (no matter how much hand-tying we need to do).
For my part, I admit that a similar occurence happened to me, but with no disastrous result: I accidently triggered the bug, but realised it just as the game was loading, and managed to avoid seeing anything by covering the screen with my hands (almost knocking it over in the process...). This bug truly is annoying.

Nothing stops Aeson from telling us what he saw even if he is not in the group. Nothing prevents anyone here to see at the save intentionally and don't see anything about that. So why keep Aeson away?
I'm sure that he is honest (his acts prove that) and that no one in the team is going to have a cheating look at the save. This game, and all games, is based in mutual trust between teams. With the actual state of PTW that's all we have.
It might be a good idea for Aeson to auto limit his own interventions to avoid spreading the information to the other members of the team, but it's not fair to keep him away from the group and prevent him from looking at what's going on here.
I hope the other teams understand this.

If this is so, that is a very unethical comment and one that goes totally against the spirit of this demo game in which IIRC we all made a pledge not to cheat at the start. Perhaps some people might find it "great" to get privilged information on other teams this way but what would be the fun in that? We are a team based on honesty and camaraderie, we play and we play to win, and we are so confident that we will do a good job that we do not resort to things like that when we have players of such skill among our ranks.
I for one applaud Aeson for his honesty, it goes to show that he is not only a wonderful Civ player and an excellent teammate but someone who had the courage to do something which I am sure hurt him deeply as he will probably miss the ISDG as much as we will miss him. Hopefully once we are in a position to see by ourselves what Aeson saw he can be properly re-integrated.
Again, I truly hope I misunderstood you because I would hate to have a teammate who considers cheating a viable option.  |

If you don't want anyone to misinterpret what you are saying, then I'd suggest that you say it more clearly. I'm no English major myself; but your post clearly implied that if Aeson had saw a portion of the map(intel), on purpose, then it would be great.
Here's a thought; use complete sentences.

in the chat room's there are plenty who talk , .....
but when push comes to shove they all of a sudden remain hidden , .......
it has been speculated many times that some teams are not so ethical as they want to show , .....

YOU are the only person ever to propose - and you DID propose, through implication - cheating on this board. Please don't jump behind your "other people said it in chat" excuse. People talk in chatrooms like they talk in locker rooms: you can believe every 10th word, especially about the size of people's ..... If other teams are cheating and looking at the saves, fine. WHEN WE WIN WITHOUT CHEATING, WE CAN TAKE PRIDE IN KNOWING WE PLAYED BY THE RULES. And by the way "The other guy must be cheating" is a speculation as old and typically baseless and common as the above locker room conversations.
I'm not even comfortable knowing that someone on this team has proposed this. Apolyton needs to be the sterling team with the solid rep, because WE DONT NEED TO CHEAT TO WIN. We surely don't want any hints of cheating, and I can just bet that somehow with as many people as we have on this team, that choice little remark about 'intel' will float out and cast aspersions on the whole team.
If indeed you were testing the waters by "throwing the ball to see how some would react" to see if you could develop some sort of support for your proposed cheating, let me say it very clearly: if that starts, I leave, and I'll take the evidence that cheating is going on with me. I would never betray a team of honest, hardworking players, but that changes the situation very quickly. Why would you even want to see how people would react to a proposal of cheating? What the HECK are you thinking?
