I think we need to make our battle reports more detailed to give the defender a better idea what happened. This is particularly true of navel battles.

I forgot last turn to tell Spencer about sinking a Driget.

Also, units lost deep in Eli's territory were bombarded by arty before being killed.

If we are going to make up for the game not showing battles, we have to give complete info on what a defender should have seen, IMO.

I'm not sure what the specifics were, but if your ironclad was a regular and the galleon was a vet, fortified, and in the ocean, the fight was reasonably close to 50-50%.

I'ts a conceptual thing. A galleon should never ever beat an ironclad. I dont expect chess-like certainty, but some combats should be essentially that, otherwise the combat becomes merely chance. Unfortunately, CIV3 forces you to play as a warmonger but it sucks as a wargame. The human element of PBEM was CIV3's last gasp for me. Despite our best efforts and more strategic possibilities, I find that the wargame flaws are too great to overcome my disappointment with the game.
