But I admit he had big sacks to go with this, since it wasn't very popular in UK at the beginning.. it was possible suicide politically. But then again security matters are not popularity contests, or decided by gallups and polls.

UK carries more political weight around the world than anyone else except for America. The UK brings a certain level of "legitimacy" to political matters.

If UK was with the European Union then it might actually offer a political counterweight.

Not only that, like I said, you're missing the point, they had every right to say no and Americans would have understood but they helped out anyway.

Russia has tremendous amounts of power, they just haven't been using it lately, and with that suave Putin in the lead... hmm.. I'm putting my money on world domination as their main objective, but they're just being sneaky right now. Just wait and see! I must say I am proud that our Country can be good Allies to the Great Nation of America. We have little in common (apart from geography) with Europeans and are much closer in nature to our good American friends.

As for Russia, I dont think anyone can dispute they hold immense amounts of power still, Blair may be a good diplomat but i dont we hold the right kind of Economic or Military power to be more significant than Russia or China. 4th biggest Political power I'd say.
