"Continental Europe" is a pretty arbitrary group. However giving it to Germany wouldn't be that awful. Germany is economically and militarily more powerful than France, but less powerful politically, especially in Africa.

If you talk about power, Europe deserves one-half of a seat (if that).

Read the link I gave earlier...IIRC something like half of US vetoes deal with Israel, and most were solo vetoes.

Of course US and Russia have a lot. They were in pretty much direct conflict for 80% of the UN's existence.

7 of last 9 vetoes were by US. Six dealt with Israel.

Canada could offer... splitting the US down the middle. They can have California. We'll take Mass and New York. Of course, we'll have toi learn how to spell Massachuesaetts, first.

Minnesota is more important than all of the others combined.
Anyway, if you could limit people into the BWCA, more power to you.

So what? Even if the Mexicans are angry with the US, they know that their economy is inextricably linked to us. Canada, OTOH, is completely irrelevant in the thought processes of Mexican policy makers. Why would the Mexicans incite the hatred of the US by voting Canada onto the SC, when helping Canada does nothing for them?

Not that any of this matters anyway. The idea of NAFTA voting on a SC representative is stupid and won't happen.

Actually, I wouldn't mind resolutions that tell Israel to **** off. If Israel did **** off, Palestine would be forced to make a serious agreement. Of course it wouldn't, and the UN would cut Israel some slack.

I think that the UNSC idea is unfair, because the deciding parties have interest in the action, and are not interested in the supposed goals of the UN, like "justice" and "the betterment of everyone".

That's the other possibility. Israel would, in effect, veto the resolution by ignoring it with US encouragement. And things would still be the same.
