http://www.pt.lu/comnet/desc/regclean.html for example of from download.com.com Try to use Google

ragclean if very automatic tool for removing unnecessary registry entries. You know that stuff what is left by wrong uninstalation and by running windows.

Regcleaner is another utility that is nice for uninstaling and record of install.

I would recommend to get regclean for start and then other utils like Regcleaner and Installwatch pro.

If she didn't delete Windows/aplications data/identies/, then there is high chance that her old inbox is still here. you might try to find ther right file by F3 "inbox.dbx" and look at date.

I don't use that words. It would be stupid, and I often don't read manual, sooner than after two mounths. You know games are better without manual - surprise.
Google is nice if you like to get higher version of file or if your old link doesn't work. Quite common after 9/ you know when US become creazy and blasted out all interesting info.
I'm rather artist. Game developer that could do very nice programming. Well someone could done lots with cars I could do a lots with computers.

Ok...I am working on her system and mine. hope the relationship stays together. It is tough when we do this on the phone.

Question: How do I change her security settings. Her settings in zonealarm are already at high/high? Is she cool then?

She might be fine. You might consider to disable download of ActiveX controls in IE to increase security.

We found the file inbox.dbx (about a month old so good sign). What do we do now? There were no later versions of the inbox...even though she has been using her outlook a fair amount. Including yesterday.

Suffering from ads?

In outlook go to file > import > messages > chose program > import mail from directory. Do you remmember that directory above?

If you think that file is the right one you could do above procedure. If you will be wrong you'll have a lots of duplicate files in your inbox.

Umm....she can't get that to work. She has Microsoft Outlook. Not Outlook Express. It has import/export settings, but she couldn't find one that does the import from a directory. It just lets you import from ACT and other programs like that. Maybe it is under Tools or something. We will fiddle around with it. Part of the hard part is that I'm not at her system...

I will be moving to Richmond in a month. She is happy about that. Me too. Well, will miss ATL. But things are going well with her and it will be fun to be closer. Will be up in DC/Richmond for some house-hunting in a little while. We may even be able to talk some science in the future. Although, my first project sounds a lot more like marketing/business than tech stuff, even though my title will be in technology. Guess they wanted to hire me and only had justification to hire technical people. But what they need and my skills are more related to the marketing/business case-y stuff related to an innovation rather than the tech details. Still may be able to get my mind into the tech if not my hands dirty...

what I seem to remember doing before (years ago) in the outlook from office 97 is creating folders and than copying/pasting in my old files over the new folders

you can try that (as long as you have the old files)

Well, we have no idea where the outlook express is. We have no shortcut for it. Is it part of W98?

Well, we are not sure that we have the old files. We have this inbox.dbx as described in the thread. Date used would seem to match. She was under the impression that she never used Outlook Express. Just Microsoft Outlook. But her old messages and adress book and all got lost when she changed that one file that had her husband's name on it...

it is part of internet explorer

it gets absorbed into outlook if you have it (or outlook works with it or something)

it is far better to not install outlook, and just install the outlook express that comes with internet explorer

if she did not create other folders that might be it

rename it to old.dbx

create a folder in outlook (or outlook express) called old.dbx

than copy your renamed inbox.dbx over it

there might be afew other issues too (I seem to remember two files with every folder)

sorry, it has been a _long_ time since I messed with Outlook

Don't know if your serious here, but I that problem too from time to time.
In my case it's just the 'alt-Gr' key being 'stuck'.
Pressing it a couple off times releases it, maybe I should clean it sometime
