If you're going to move to Mexico then there are many nicer cities to live in then TJ. Did you meet a girl who was from TJ or were you just fleeing the high priced housing north of the border?

my bf will not drive to LA..he HATES la with a passion...in fact, the first time i saw him (back when we were friends) we was incredibly sour because he was in LA and ..... yeah...long story ..... lol...my vote is for Balboa in San Diego (even if i don't go....ok..so it's a suggestion)...or something like that. Balboa Park & the Prado are great and so is the Gas Lamp. Before we decide exactly where in San Diego we'd like to meet I think it is important to decide when we're going to have it. I think I'm going to make an official pole for the 2003 International Apolyton Meet in San Diego where people can vote which summer month they would prefer the meet to occur in. I'll post a link in this thread just as soon as I complete the pole.

Newbie. LTEC!, who posts here, is my wife. Tijuana has some very nice areas (houses for US $1 million+ ), and some real dregs, but the proximity to the border is essential for me. If I lived further down the coast, or elsewhere in Mexico, I'd be cut off from access to US energy and gas markets, which is where I make my living. Over here in Playas, I get out of the ugly area, but still have access to reasonable housing (and you can't beat it when you have a two-year old, there's a small city park right across the street, and it's a residential neighborhood, so pretty much locals only), and it's coastal climate, easy access to everything, greener than most of Tijuana, and quiet. Tourists mostly end up seeing the crap downtown and in the tourist areas, so it's easy to conclude the entire city is the same kind of thing, but it isn't - there's both a lot better and a lot worse, depending on where you go.

For a while (shortly after I moved down here) I was doing second and third tier consulting work for Sempra when they were looking at bidding into some independent power producer offerings for CFE, so it looked then like I might be doing ongoing work south of the border.

For the price difference in what you get, I couldn't see doing US housing in San Diego - you really have to trade off a lot (no pun intended) in terms of size, quality and location to get to an "affordable" range in SD, and for that money, you can buy a lot in a good location and custom build something much better here. There's other economic benefits to living here too, including some degree of escape from Cali's obscene state tax system.
