I don't think Muslim extremists have nuclear weapons bought off the former USSR. If they did, why haven't they used them? I wouldn't like to see it happen, don't get me wrong.

As for Israel striking Moscow and St Petersburg, I'd be surprised. I thought Israel's deterrent was launched from the torpedo tubes of a conventional sub. Not saying it can't go 100s of kilometres, but that far? That's one very efficient missile.

Or am I completely mistaken on these points?

Neutron bombs aren't a bad idea if you need to go big bomb. But there is still a stigma from decades ago concerning these things. I guess the fear is that since they will only destroy flesh for the most part, Neutron bombs might encourage nuclear war.

These estimates (100-400) are based on the size of the cooling towers at Dimona assuming they are 100% efficient.

As they clearly can't be, less than 400 would be the smart guess.

Unless of course, you have found a way to conceal a reactor's IR emissions. A good trick that would be.
