Long, long ago, there was a time when there was no España. There was no Lord Togas. There was no Madrid, no Cow Valley, and no Great Northern Jungle. These things had yet to be. One man had a vision. His vision was the gathering of the local people together, so that they may live securely in a place of their own choosing. No more living where the Bison roam, where there are rock shelves to protect from the wind and rain. NO MORE, was the way he shouted this. He was tired of the old ways. His people were one of the first to gather the seeds and store them the winter, so that in the spring they could be planted for a greater harvest the next year. His friend, who lived two caves over was one of the first to realize that things can be made from what was dug up in the ground, copper at first, but later bronze, iron and steal.

This man was the founder of España. This was the first Lord Togas. I was his friend who lived two caves over.

There was no organized religion in those days. We listened to the spirits of the trees, of the rivers and the mountains. When we killed a beast for food, we asked forgiveness of the animals’ spirits. We did have a wise man in those days. Many now refer to him as a Witch Doctor. He listened better than most to the spirits, and helped guide in making us better people.

When España was young, many families joined together to form a tribe, a civilization. Later, many more would join us. I was among the first to take to Lord Togas’ call, and I shall be one of the last to leave. Many of us were good at different things. We worked together to do what we could, and we asked for help in doing what we could not do alone. This is what was great about the people of España. We understood that people do things differently, that people were different, and that those differences are what made us strong.

Several hundred years ago, a man was born. He was short, spoke with an odd lisp, and liked to walk in the fields with his sheep. In his time, the people of España had grown numerous. When he came into town, he was at first overwhelmed by the differences between those of us who lived in the urban areas and those who lived in the country. Being from the country, he felt that his way was superior. He went into the taverns and met some people from the Land of the Vox. They told him of the Voice, and an idea formed in his head. Were not the people of España the best people in the world? And were not those who lived in the county of España the best of the Spaniards? Obviously then, the Voice of the Vox must be a lesser voice, a servant of the true God. And if there is a true god, he must of course be talking to the people of España.

This man began telling others of his ideas. Many believed him, having heard of the Voice of the Vox and following his logic. They listened to his ideas, and enjoyed the times when he would come into town and talk.

Like most men, this man was mortal. One day he was found by the men of Lord Togas. He was doing unnatural things with his sheep, while his wife watched and drew pictures. By the laws of the time, he was crucified. Taking pity on him, one of the men used his spear and stabbed him, causing him to bleed out instead of staying alive on the cross for days of excruciating pain and agony.

His followers told his story, spreading his ideas to many people. Lots of time passed. Eventually, things changed. A copy of a copy of a copy, told from one man to another for hundreds of years. People who had never met this man wrote books of his life and time. People who were born hundreds of years after he died told tales of how they were good friends. Stories were told to make some people feel better, stories became tales, tales became legend, and legend was rewritten into fact as people didn’t know the truth from fiction.

Then one day someone realized something. They had an epiphany. Everybody believes that his man was divine, sent to spread the tales of the glories of God. If one man can be made into a God then why not another? This man began gathering a cult of followers, those who he could convince that he was the Mortal Voice of God. As this god had never spoken to the people of España, and as these people were followers, not leaders, eventually he gathered a large flock together. They collected monies from the peasants to build their grand cathedrals. They lived like the Lord Togas on these monies. And yet greed was greed, and enough was never enough. They always were looking for more, always justifying what they are doing as being for the good, as being just and right, of being from the word of God.

And yet not all fell into their traps. Not all of the people of España were prey to these tiburóns. Some clans remembered the old ways; remembered to thank the spirits of the land and water for their gifts. Others realized that these men were just greedy, taking and never giving anything back except some words of praise. Of course, anybody who was to keep me fed and clothed like royalty would get some kind words from me as well.

But as the power of these men grew, so did their arrogance. They came up with new and diabolical ways of making people believe in them. The Comfy chair is but a minor example. How about all those poor people used as kindling at last years weenie roast? Ever wonder how they were chosen? And when was the last time you ever heard of anybody running the rapids by old Madrid? What profit is there in that?

No. I will not directly answer to this so called inquisition by a bunch of greedy old men. If they wish to burn me for telling their history, so be it. If they cannot handle the truth, they will fall. All I will do is tell the truth like I see it. My family has worked with and for the Togas line for many generations. We are true and faithful to our proud civilization. Those who seek to convert the masses into believing they are the prophets, the mortal voice of the one true god are in fact the evil doers.

I have heard your evidence, and ask for the cap of judgement.

(A white cap is placed over the Cardinal's own skull-cap...handing his papers to his secretary, Senor Neecap, he leans forward. There is a deep sadness in his eyes, and his face has turned pale as though the sherry has soured in his mouth.)

I am afraid, Senor GodKing, that your blasphemies speak for yourself. You deny the Nature of Christ, you deny His Resurrection, you deny His Divinity. You spew your twisted doctrines throughout the Curia itself, paying no heed to what is holy and what is not to be mocked so vilely. Despite every attempt to ignore your wild and continuous abuse of the Church, you force your misguided notions on us, even the Pope cannot escape your ridicule. You have not tried to defend yourself, you have not called witnesses, you do not recognize the authority of your God, your Church, or of your King. You have not allowed us to help you, and thus we cannot protect you. Let you never say that I have not tried to assist you, let you never be so bold as to issue so gross a falsehood. Let you know that, had you answered you would have been heard and been saved. But you did not do so.

The cap of sentence, Bailiff...

(Drums roll from the Swiss Guardsmen who line the corridors. Crowds shout "Burn 'em! Haaaar haaaar!", the floor becomes covered in various rotting fruits, vegetables, and other such things, all aimed at the defendant. Senor GodKing nobly removes a sardine from his shoulder...ever the noble pagan... Cardinal Calamari takes note of this, and has much sorrow for the poor deluded man. As this occurs, the black cap of sentence is placed upon his pate. The axes and poles are brought forward, the King's coat of arms is laid between them. The drums cease.)

I have taken note of the reports of Dr. Pinch, who has conducted a thorough examination of your health, Senor GodKing. He reports that from an accident with a drippy faucet, you are suffering from water on the brain, a very serious malady of the mind. Thus, I shall take note of such when I pass sentence.

I know, as you do, that many cry for your blood today, but I must remember the duty of this Church.

O GodKing, with the mark of banished Cain on thy head...hey! Wait! That is the mark of banished Cain!!...wow! How did you get that?

Ummm...

Senor GodKing, I give judgement. You have been found guilty of three counts of blasphemy, one count of extreme heresy, and three accounts of attempted escape from the laws of King Togas and of the Church. You know that with such, this court has the power to sentence you to death by burning or hanging.

Now, I pass sentence.

Although you have committed crimes against God and King, you are, we believe, insane of a malady of the brain. Therefore, you may not be aware of what you say. If this is so, you shall spend the rest of your years in Castle San Angelo, in the sanitarium. There you may recover your wits. You shall be allowed visits from your family for the remainder of your days. All of your lands and estate shall pass into the hands of your good son, Senor GodKing. He shall be head of the family until his death.

If, however, you are found not to be mad after all, or if you declare your sanity, a greater penalty shall be given.

You shall be exiled from the borders of Spain and from all those people whom you might poison with your dreadful heresy. You shall be noted by the mark of Cain that you bear on your forehead, and any man in Spain who gives harbor to you shall be fined. You shall never again travel through this land, nor shall you speak to any Spaniard again, unless outside these lands. You shall be made to dwell in the lonely regions of this world, where there is nothing but nature, and God. May you find peace there, my cousin, where God walks alone in his garden, under his sun and his moon, in the day or in twilight. May you walk with him there, fellow man, and find solace in His company. May He forgive you, brother, that you will see the truth and walk with Him eternally. May you come to know your Father as a son in the long hours of loneliness ahead. But know that you are never alone. There will be God at your side, urging you to come home, like the prodigal's son, so that the fatted calf may be slain and the feast be prepared, so that you may come back to the Father and be with Him always, so that you, who were blind, will see again. That you, who were dead, will be alive again.

[whispers to GodKing in a moment after his testimony]
Señor GodKing, your story is heartrending and your cause is valiant...however, to the men who will determine your fate, it does not amount to "a hill of beans". I am sorry, dear friend.[/whisper]

I congratulate the Court for taking into consideration Señor GodKing's mental illness. It would be immoral to execute a man who does not know whut he is doing or why it is wrong.

Also, this case, being the first of its kind, will determine future matters with the Church--it is clear that any limits that the Church had in the past are now dissolving, and demons had better watch the **** out. An allpowerful Church can easily prevent heresy, but the larger it gets, the more likely it is to be tainted with man's own goals and wants instead of the Pure Word of God.

[ooc]Great case, can't wait till another one (not mine!!!). [/ooc]

Put an end to popups!

You draw your sword on me, you foolish peasant. How dare you? Do you not know who I am. I am of one of the greatest families of España. What, what is that there, you have six fingers on your right hand, SIX FINGERS! I know a man who is looking for someone with six fingers on his right hand…

At this point several large burly men wearing the livery of Lord Togas move between the stage and the crowd, keeping Roberto de la Civ away from GK. Whether this was intentional or just normal crowd control is unknown

I will tell the man of whom I speak where to find you, Roberto. Using the crowd and confusion as a cover, GK slips off the stage and disappears. Several months go by, and nobody can find him. The Pope has posters made up and posted through the land, and yet there is still no word. After nearly 4 months, there is still no sign of GK. Everybody except Roberto del Civ has forgotten the entire incident.

Sitting in a dark room, GK is sitting talking to someone. Nothing can be told about the location or even the furnishings in the room, as the only illumination is from a single candle sitting on the floor in front of GK. “I have some information for you Inigo…”

*Hum, the Cardinal Calamari is indulgent beyond expectations. And he was specially appointed by the Pope himself. Interesting ....*

Senor de la Civ,

For your eyes only

I can understand your anger. This story about water in the head of Godking is a joke. Never a drop of water made its way to the mouth of Godking, let alone his brain. Beer would have been a possibility, though.

You have notice that the accused has not confessed his crimes, that he did not express any repentance. This is proper ground for annulment.

I have obtained extremely good results for obtaining confessions assorted with as much repentance as you like with a totally new method : you spread strawberry jam under the feet of Godking, and you bring a goat which will happily lick the jam. Nobody can bear this.

Therefore you should volonteer again to transport Godking to the place where he will be kept, and on the way you could spare a few minutes for getting his confession. With that we would ask the Pope to cancel the too friendly judgement.

Friendly yours

I repeat that I believe you were a very fair judge in this case. The burden of deciding this man's, and in a larger part, some of Spain's history itself must be difficult.

Your Holiness,

I thank you. However, it seems popular support was asking for a burning, and I have not given that to the masses. Instead, I have done what I have seen fit, and once Senor GodKing, that treacherous squid, is located, we shall exile him from the borders of Spain.

One of the demands of the court is to excommunicate him. I have done so already, but have found that he never received his first communion to begin with. He is therefore declared anathema and is exiled. His escape shows that he is not mad (though certain elements of the police force may not be doing their duty), and that the second penalty must be enforced. He will be cut off from all human life forever by the exile. Anyone found harboring him will be fined, and he, if found hiding, will be executed by Senor de la Civ.

Hark! Do I hear discontent? Senor de la Civ, if you have further proof, you might have provided it, for we of the Inquisition did not find any of the marks on his body of being a warloc. We merely found him foaming and bumping into things and general unawareness of what he was doing. However, it seems he hath vanished, and if you will hunt him down, he will be exiled, for a madman wouldn't have the sense to slip away.

There is news that he has himself hidden with the capital himself. If he survives the burning, we shall track him to the home of Senor Inigo, who is already in our trap. We shall not allow Senor GodKing to escape, but we must ask the Bailiff and the Watcher why Senor GodKing was allowed to do so from this court.

What did you say, Watcher? Over indulgent? Humph. Try to do justice, and what do you get?

Senor Mitchell,

You and the Pope alone share such praise. I wish all of Spain were as faithful to the head of the Church, His Holiness Pope Aidun, as you are.

When Senor GodKing is discovered, as soon he shall be, he shall be exiled from the Kingdom of Spain into the wilderness. All of his land and wealth go to his son. That is the decision of the court.

Cardinal Calamari

(struggling, in a crate, behind iron bars, is Senor GodKing, foaming, shouting, and biting)

We've got him now, and are releasing him only in the mountains. Senor de la Civ, I entrust the commission to you and to the Bailiff. You will carry his crate into the mountains, take him in a boat across the water, and release him into the wilderness on one of our distant islands. You alone shall be given the map of how to return, and if Senor GodKing follows, do your best to stop him without shedding his blood. His life is in God's hands now, it is for God to decide what to do with him. He shall never harm anyone in Spain again, nor shall he see anyone ever again. The island is a large one, he has land to himself to think over what he has done and repent before His Maker. So it shall be.

Further, let it be known, that if this man returns to Spain, after being lawfully exiled, that he is to be killed by any who find him.

Should any knowingly harbor this man, they shall share in his fate.

Also note, I hereby order that 1/10th of the lands formerly owned by the Godking clan (not that they have very much, as they spent most of their history in the service of the King as chamber pot cleaners) are to be given to The Church as restitution for the sins of the elder GodKing.

Esteemed Cardinal, I will do so immediately.

Roberto de la Civ

Two weeks later, on a boat heading towards GodKing's island of exile:
"Die, murderer, die!"

Later that day: A group of fishermen come to the exact spot where the aforementioned boat was. They see a red spot in the water. They decide to investigate, and find a head without a body! One of them recognizes it as that of GodKing, having seen a portrait of him on a poster...

Two more weeks later, Roberto de la Civ returns just in time to celebrate the birth of his son, who he named Roberto. (from now on the son will be Roberto Menor de la Civ (Roberto the Younger) and the father will be Roberto Mayor de la Civ (Roberto the Elder))

Great King of all under the Sky,

This court bows before your justice and supreme magnanimosity. So it is ordained, so let it be written.

Senor Mitchell,

Unless Senor GodKing return from his island then he shall not be slain. He shall be left in exile on this island, and none shall venture there for fifty years, just to make sure he's not just simply dead, but quite positively dead.

Senor de la Civ,

I heard that they found Senor GodKing dead. However, this was dismissed as a rumor. Any truth to it, at all?

I cannot prove this, but the rumor has spread like a forestfire, and the mob is very angry. My guess is, that you are all gonna burn.

Oh, look! They are already gathering hay down at the plaza....

[edit]

OOC:
Of course, you all choose what your character will do, when they die, etc. But it would be a helluva an awesome roleplay if many chars died on the same bonfire.

Suffering from ads?

I have nothing to fear from malicious gossip. Have you suddenly become an old woman, Senor, that you would fall into believing such a wild and scandalous tale? Without proof, which I dare say you have not, you prove yourself to have been too easily taken in by such falsehoods.

If it is ducats you want, you will not have them, for I will not cave in to terrorism or brigands, nor, I dare say, will Spain and the Church.

Your Majesty, Your Holiness, Senor Torquemada, I suggest we leave for the day. Without a GodKing to burn, this mob will burn itself out.

Cardinal Calamari

Oh, there is some proof... The wisemen were talking about denial caused by sin and shame. I just saw the cardinal's shameful denial!

And some guys from Barcelona had confessed to being members of the occult movement. They hoped for indulgiancies, but since there was sexual rituals and stuff, they were all burnt... Before they died they shouted: "Calamari, help us"... and couched out something about the "The Black Cat" as the smoke choked them out.

My guess is that Calamari is the witchmaster, cause I remember seeing him with a black cat the other day!
A real black cat, señores! *masses go oooooh*

Wisemen? Considering the fact that the only wisemen in this country are within the Church, and since none say this, I would assume that it is you who is mixed up in pagan cults, and not I.

Besides, don't you own a black dog? Such is the servant of Lucifer. And that say that his servants will try to convince that those who serve God are the real warlocs. How do we know that this is not the case with you?

Enough of this! Go home, boy. You know not what you speak of.

[ooc]The buck stops here. I need the character. [/ooc]

So now you are accusing me for your own deathsins? It's part of the denial tactic, isn't it? I serve God, but I also serve the army...
Now I will leave this place, and tell our soldiers this tale too.

OOC:
Don't get mad. I've killed my chars already twice this way. But if you need him for somethig else, ok...
