Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

I must say that the British entry was truly abysmal and I would not have awarded it any points. They were completely tuneless, the song sounded totally and utterly flat and was just completely uninspiring...it actually didn't just sound bad, it was an unpleasant listening experience. Who f**king selected those as our contestants? I didn't see any vote on it occur...

I don't think we did vote this time. Jemini are just a joke though. I think with Iraq, someone realised we wouldn't win and thought it better to take the p*** this time. Was funny though

What is this Eurovision? And why doesn't it play in the US? Sounds popular.

Eurovision is like an umbrella organization for european (and other, like from Turkey and Israel) TV stations. They every year make a song contest for amateurs (the Grand Prix de Eurovision), broadcasted in every country, where the viewers can vote by phone for anyone except the participant from their own country. Who gets the most votes, wins.

It's mostly a laugh, although several people take it dead serious.

In an Eurovision contest?

GP - it is a song contest for all European countries (also Israel takes part). Thing is, as Sir Ralph said it, it appears very amateurish (although it is a big event), since the most known singers or bands usually donīt participate (with some exceptions)

If it is amateurs how did TaTu enter? I am sure the UK would've gotten more points if they'd dropped someone like Robbie Williams in.

The fact that the truly atrocious UK entry got 0 points (worst Eurovision song I've ever seen - and that's saying one hell of a lot) almost makes me think that the rest of Europe has some taste in music. Almost...

Of course the contest is technically not for amateurs, but it seems strange somehow, since many countries donīt send their most successful singers/bands. AFAIK when ABBA participated they were totally unknown (their carreer started just after winning the contest).

don't feel so omnipotent in rock music... Belgium has got some pretty frikking great rock bands as well

Also I have the impression panag doesn't like Belgium so much
Btw most countries don't sing in their own language, so what's the problem in a made up language.. That folk song is about how it sounds, not about content (I mean the other sings with real lyrics don't have any noteworthy content anyway)

Besides our song had some elements that belong to our country (celtic influences etc.. )

The man was just talentless and the woman was so nervous that she could barely move. Where do we find these people?

I thought that the Irish entry should have done better, since it sounded like the type of song that usually does well at Eurovision.

Tatu deserve credit for embarassing themselves even more than the average eurovision entrant usually does. That off-key screeching they tried to pass of as singing would have been the worst song in the contest in a normal year.
