* bump *
I shall play the turn within an hour or so. Any comments on my suggestions? It is especially sending Mao & Alva on barb hunting I would like to hear comments on.

Alright, the savegame arrived at a wee inconvenient time of the day for us... I am going to wait a bit until playing the turn, though probably just 2-3 hours.
Here is the situation:
1) Morris moved further westwards, outside of our cultural borders. Two tiles from the nearest target of ours now.
2) The barb in the North disappeared.
3) F3 says there are 'Harappan tribes nr Tripoli.
Suggested moves:
1) N2 'Mao' to move S (2), searching for the barb camp
2) W3 'Alva' to move N-E (8-6), searching for the barb camp
3) elite W6 'Hagbart' stay fortified - covers both workers and the city.
If Morris moved inside our cultural borders on the next turn (I consider it almost impossible, as he cannot see unit/s we have in Tripoli and on the adjacent hills), we would be able to engage with Hagbart (or MerZenary).
4) Worker 'Dan' to move S-S-SE (2-2-3), to clear a jungle tile that is already roaded.
5) W9 '???' to move NW (7), to use the defense bonus of the hill; looking for the barb camp there. |

vondrack, could you send me the turn? I'm not very good at giving advice unless I have the game in front of me.

My humble suggestions:
1. Warrior fortified in Tripoli moves West, to shadow foreign Warrior for the time being. This is a psychological move, and one that works for me.
2. Merc. on Hill South of Tripoli moves South onto Hills to hunt for Barbs.
3. Elite Warrior North of Tripoli moves East to search for Barbs.

At this moment, Morris is sort of "blind" - cannot see anything but jungle. Moving our warrior next to him, we would be providing him with a nice target in case he goes amok. Would that be wise? It would allow CDG to take initiative, should they decide to. If we leave Morris with nothing in striking distance, he would be exposing himself to our "first blow" in case things go wrong.
And btw, purely theoretically, if our other unit moved to a 2-tile distance from Tripoli and Morris killed Alva on the next turn (theory!), Tripoli would be toast.

Are we sure we want to hunt barbs with our elite warrior? For jungle camps that have a relatively low defense bonus, I believe it would be wiser to send our regulars, hoping not only for cash bonuses, but for promotions, too.
Anyone else? (Dom, thanks for paying attention and for responding - I find it rather funny that with all the posting today, so little attention is being paid to the actual turn... maybe I am making too much of this simple unit movement...)

Let's put our "realisitc hats" on here: do you really think CDG is going to alpha-strike us across a River and onto Jungle, with no real backup whatsoever (we've been monitoring their movements pretty closely)? It's a "risk", sure, but it is so infinitesmal that it's not worth considering, IMO (I am glad other people are considering it, though!). By escorting their unit out of our lands (as defined by the border), we show strength and the ability to properly patrol and defend our lands. That's psychologically very important.
And, by the way, I'm not suggesting we escort their Warrior all the way to the border. Just this move is enough to show them that we mean business when it comes to trespassing.

The Elite Warrior will not venture more than 1 tile from Tripoli (see below).

The Elite is not hunting Barbs, it's checking two tiles of darkness for camps, then returning to "civilization". Another (non-Elite, perferably Regular) unit can return and take care of the camp. This is far more useful than leaving the Elite idle.
Tsk, tsk, you make it sound like you've listened to my council and rejected it outright. Not very Consul-like...

Agreed on the low probability. Though I believe that what we "get" from shadowing Morris is not enough to make it worth that risk, however negligible it may be...

Moving Hagbart E of where he is now puts him two tiles (or two turns) from Tripoli (NE-NE or 9-9).

Sorry, bad wording on my side maybe. I was asking for more people to speak their minds up. I still prefer the moves I proposed, but if more people say they would like to do what you suggest, I may change my mind. I am just one woeful despot, am I not?

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.
By the way, try not to underestimate the psychological effect of unit positioning. How would you feel if you were CDG? You're leaving 'Poly's territory, and they send a unit to see you on your way. For me, it would make me feel like 'Poly runs a pretty tight ship, and well-defended to boot. That will affect their decision to mess with us, which, incidentally, is the one big "unknown" at this point. Any control we can exert over them is worth it (...especially when they're clearly not going to attack us, but we've agreed to disagree on that).
Wait a second. To push this idea even further: maybe we could move the Regular Warrior due W (from the city) and the Elite one SW (from the Hill). That's safe, and really makes us look well-defended. What do you think?
