Increase Your PM Length

I still remember playing Eyes and having him resign because he revolted and was in anarchy for 3 turns and *****ed about it in typical Eyesian fashion.
I guess Oedo is just a little smarter then Eyes......
(of course I, like all civers previous to the Oedo year discovery never realized every 4th year was a government changing year....he trumped the King also!)

yep. And the worse thing is that when I originally played SP, I would reload every now and then. Mostly, I'd finish my turn, save, revolt, then advance and see how many turns of anarchy, and go back and reload. AND NEVER NOTICED THE PATTERN. Sometimes it's the easiest things that mystify us the most.

Suffering from ads?

From playing games last week... it seems that some people didn't know that if a city was going to go into revolt the next turn, but was going to finish building a unit or happiness improvement that would keep it from happening, that the city won't go into revolt.

It seemed like everybody learned something with three of us in the room playing and one person wandering from player to player. It was a great experience.

Full PM-box? Change here!

Part of the reason I started this thread was to point out my own mistakes with the hope that I wasn't alone (and from reading enough threads here I knew I wasn't), it makes some interesting reading to find out what other people didn't know about the game, even after playing for a while ( and in some cases, quite a while)

Yes I did the same. Looking back now it boggles the mind how many people had this staring them in the face for so long without spotting it. When you look at some of the trade discoveries of Solo/Samson, the oedo year is SO DAMN OBVIOUS in comparison.

Let's see, there was also a person that didn't know that if your food bin was full, that the city would still grow if you had a negative food production (as long as the the new worker would cover the the negative)

All the little details.

Add me to the growing list..........and again it's pretty obvious, since the city grows with 0 surplus if the box is full and you get the food that the extra worker generates immediately.

That and people that when move up their dips to steal or whatever, don't use all the movement points. On a river/road network, they move up to the city and move right in wasting 2/3 of a movement point since they only need 1/3 to move into the city. Move that extra square or two around the city to expose a little more black, then move in on the last third.

It's true and often used! City shields, science, lux and taxes are added and put in effect before decision is made of the status of a city (disorder, normal or celebrating).

This can be used also for example to cream out a unit/improvement/science research and so on from the city that should take 2 turns otherwise if you put elvises enough to get the city from disorder. You get the thing you wanted but the price you paid is that the city not produce anything next turn (it is going into disorder).

But there are ONE exeception the CURRENT city size is decided BEFORE the above moment. The only thing that effect current city size is if the food box is full -> in such case one worker is added. After that the above step is executed (this is the reason with the growth with full food box and negative surplus food).

But more important this means one more interesting thing: If you have 8 citiziens in a city it requries an Aquaduct to growth more. You must finish the Aquaduct ONE turn before your food box is full otherwise you will lose all the food in it and you must start over on size 8 to fill it again. This is because of that currect city size is decided BEFORE update of city resources take place (the moment there your Aquaduct will be built and start take effect).

The same applies to Sewer system and Granaries.

But if you are celebrating prior and build an aquaduct, you city will increase in size the turn you build the aquaduct.

Thanks Rah, I thought I had seen a size 8 city grow on the turn the aqueduct was built: it must have been a celebrating one, then!!

I can confirm that, but there is an exception: if it concerns a city at the coast, it is better to accomplish directly from the ship the actions. If a hostile diplomat repels the espionage, the Diplo remains on the ship. On land he stays before the city and would be destroyed

Yes, I agree. But sometimes it's worth losing him to get that peek behind the city. Especially if it's not a long run by sea.

Well... the book claims 20% for diplos and 40% for spies... but frankly... the odds don't seem to be that high, or at least it rarely works for me.
