The Story So Far- New Member Read Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

It occurs to me that we might be able to speed things up for the four newcomers if we can give them a brief rundown on what has gone on. I'm going to take a stab at this, but please feel free to add on what you think I missed or other useful info. This might be a good thread to bump anytime we get new members.

The World As We Know It Updated July 30

CDG, aka Persia What once was the mad empire of an insane king, is now ashes and rubble. When GCA and CFC (See below) went to war, CDG decided to jump in on the action and 'backstab' GCA. They took one GCA city and razed it... and then died spectacularly. Call it GCA luck or poor CDG planning, CDG's cities fell like wheat before the scythe shortly thereafter. CDG is now out of the game; they have resigned, giving their gold to CFC and their cities to us. RIP, Elucidia, and next time, don't be so friggin erratic.

GameCatchersAlliance, aka India The stories conflict slightly, but the facts are the same: GCA attacked CFC when CFC was linking up an iron city, and the war has been on ever since. GCA has gotten one, possibly two great leaders, but the results of these great leaders is unknown. We expect to be allying with CFC in the near future to bring down GCA, but GCA has turned into a formidable technological and military peer. Whether or not CFC will stay in the war is also a question worth asking. In any case, we will probably war with them sooner rather than later, utilizing our superior Republican government and a golden age to drive GCA into the ocean BEFORE the War Elephants rise against us. Currently, we are still in the process of exchanging technology with them enroute to the end of the Ancient Era.

CivilizationFanaticsCenter, aka China The entire western half of our continent (currently, anyhow) belongs theoretically to CFC. CFC has been locked in war with GCA for some time now, and claims to be doing poorly. Recent evidence suggests otherwise - we have seen CFC units well away from the front lines in our naval expeditions. Despite unclear power structures in CFC (their leaders appear sometimes rash) we are attempting to maintain good relations with them. Exactly what we will do when Chinese Riders roam the lands is currently unknown.

We have no contact with any other civilizations at this time, but are now preparing to sail west into uncharted waters, where other civilizations likely lie.

Who's Who on Apolyton Team Not Yet Updated, No Real Changes

Consuls: Vondrack, NotYouEither (Nye) and Mr.Whereitsat (MrWIA.) These gentlemen have been our consuls since the game began, and have been doing an exceptional job of keeping the team's morale intact, keeping us on track, and somehow drawing a consensus from the occasionaly discordant membership. Vondrack is stepping down at the time of this being first written.

Ministers: Trip, Minister of War. E_T, Minister of Interior. Togas, Minister of Foreign Relations. BigFurryMonster, Minister of Intelligence. Recently stepped down: Minister of Interior Dominae.

Unsurprisingly, the various Ministers have different views as to how things should be done- much like the advisors of Civ2. They are, however, all very skilled in their arenas, and have all accomplished excellent works in their contributions to the team.

MoW Trip has been our Minister of War since day one. His job is to tend to our defense, suggest unit movements, and generally prepare for the worst. Trip is responsible for the warrior screen which will let us know the moment CDG comes north, if they do.

MoI E_T has the unenviable job of taking over after a very successful predecessor. E_T will spend most of his time staring at jungle tiles, and considering the best way to make a silk purse out of our banana-filled sow's ear.

FAM Togas leads a team of skilled ambassadors whose job is to get the most out of our foes while giving them the least. Togas is famed for his ability to sneak loopholes into any treaty, allowing us to step in and out of inconvenient arrangements, should the need ever arise.

MoInt BigFurryMonster recently took over for the absent OliverFA, and has been doing an outstanding job of taking every screen's information and breaking it down where we can all look at it. BFM is looking for more help to ease the workload.

Former MoI Dominae ran the first roughly 60 turns of our domestic affairs. Dominae's legacy to us is 2 granaries, which we are betting heavily on as settler/worker pumps for clearing jungle and aggressively expanding - something we will need to do as our starting position has not been the game-filled Gaia that Apolyton deserves.

Our General Plan At This Point Updated July 30

With the sudden and shocking demise of CDG, plans are being relaid. GCA is now our prime target, and we are considering active assistance/cooperation with CFC for that end. We are approaching the time when we will switch to Republican government, and shortly thereafter we are likely to launch our assault. The nature of that assault is still unclear; there are both land-marching and naval possibilities being considered, but the naval possibilities are considered more promising by most.

Things are not entirely peachy - a nation on the other continent has finished the Pyramids, and while we are third in manufacturing, we know that the two nations ahead of us are supergiants, indeed. Much will be gambled on the war with GCA; perhaps everything. Conquering them gives us a wealth of very good land to work with. Losing to them will likely send us to sit on the sidelines with CDG; though obviously we do not consider this likely. The next 100 turns will likely determine the fate of Apolyton, in the writer's estimation.

We do not plan to build any Wonders at the present time.

We have not made plans to lay our Forbidden Palace at this time.

Small correction:

Ninot was the original third Consul, but he resigned and served a CoC (Change of Command) on himself because he felt he could no longer contribute the amount needed. MrWhereItsAt volunteered hs name and has been the new Consul since then.

And an expansion:

With our planned attack on CDG, we aim to go in with overwhelming forces (but it is likely they will not be hugely so), once we have become a Republic and before CDG has reached Feudalism, which will enable them to build Pikemen - a lot harder to defeat with our Swordmen.

To this end we have a plan for our cities' builds for the next 30+ turns, which will see us building Numidian Mercenaries and Warriors ready to upgrade to Swordmen.

Put an end to popups!

And an update:

Vondrack was replaced with BigFree.

Since then relations between CFC and GCA cooled, and then a war started, despite our efforts to prevent it. At the moment they're duking it out, while CDG sits on the sidelines. A CDG Immortal in their northern-most city left the city and it now appears to be vacant, suggesting a shifting in forces towards CDG's southern border. That alters the balance of power issue of the moment.

Other than that, everything seems to be the same.

2nd bump for Canuck.

Since my last update, CDG has backstabbed GCA and they have been fighting ever since. GCA's attack into CFC was destroyed, and it appears as though a CDG stack of 5 Immortals and 1 Spearman has also been destroyed (by GCA). We're now waiting to see what happens next, as we continue to build up.

Update/bump #3:

Against all odds, GCA is still on the offensive against CFC, and has completely routed and destroyed the CDG army. GCA has taken two of CDG's cities, and will soon be in position to capture their capital and last productive city. We're currently planning on wiping out CDG in order to shift the target of the AltSp to GCA without having to deal with a crippled CDG between us.

Tired of ads?

Should we be putting this in a "history book" format. For example:

BC 4000 - BC 3000
In the North-eastern part of the large continent, a glorious people rose, who called themselves Apolytonians.
...

BC 3000 - BC 2000
etc.

-------------

Oh, and don't forget the construction of the Pyramids.

If I'm gonna write it, I'm gonna format it how I wants!

Hehe. Kidding. Mostly.

I think I included the Pyramids near the end of the entry. Honestly, I was looking less for a comprehensive history-book approach so much as just a general quick feel of where things stand. A history book approach could get pretty long over the course of the game, too- I wanted to stick with the relevant and the now.

civman.

We are in the Middle Ages tech wise. We have feudalism.

We put down the walking corpse of CDG by occupying their last city after their team requested it.

We recently discovered Republic, and have just this last turn come out of anarchy.

We are in the final phase of preparations for war with GCA. We are saving to upgrade our swords to MI's and will perform the odd cash rush to get us up to snuff force-wise ASAP.

As of this last turn, we are average v GCA military wise. However, we know that they had about 8 30 shield units (horse and sword) as well as an army deployed against CFC, and well away from us.
