My last name is Freeman.

While in the Navy, I picked up the nick "BigFree." I'm 6'3" 230 lbs.

I might get a personlized plate that says "BIGFREE." If you see me on the road, be sure to honk at me!

My name is strictly a psychological ploy that started about 3 computer games back....

Friedrich sounds German, and the American media-driven stereotypical notion of a German is a cold, calculating, warmongering mean fellow. (Reality and television rarely mesh.)

Psitalon is two words crammed together "Psi" as in psionics, or "of the mind" and talon, as in a bird's claw used for raking and snatching prey.

Put it all together and you have a cold, calculating, mean fellow who messes with your head.

dejon was originally dijon before an ISP didn't have it available and I switched one letter.

dijon is a character from the old Disney cartoon (and movie), DuckTales. When I was young, my best friend and I adopted the nicks dijon and poupon. I was the younger, impulsive one, and he was the wiser older brother. I had an image of the character as my avatar here for awhile, and still have it at MZO.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Well - my RL initials are BH - so I went with that. And I wanted a dog in there somewhere - as we do not have one - we have two cats. And I always loved the quote - "cry havoc, and let slip the dogs of war."

I used the nick a couple of times battling my nephew at C+C (yes - he kicked my butt).

Thinking of changing it to simply Beta, as that is what most people refer to me as.

btw - the other choice I was thinking about when I joined Poly was Optimax - but that sounded redundant.

Wervdon was the name I used on my admin/immortal character on Darkmists (a mud) for about 5 years. I've since left DM (jan. of 2002), but I still the use the name since so many people (online at least) know me by it. When I first made the character, I come up with the name as a twist on the word Wyvern. Why I wanted to do that, I dont remember

Btw Fried, I've always read your name as fried-psilon until now Too much moo for me I guess :P

SirPartyMan - I was originally PartyMan on a bbs back in the early 1990's. But I couldn't get that email on AOL and Yahoo, so I added the formality, "Sir", for uniqueness. I also like the ring of respect that goes with it. But you can call me SPM or Party, like most gamers do.

Heh... nothing fancy with my nick. My family name is Vondracek (in Czech, it probably has roots in a "little wanderer", which would be Vandracek). Anyway: years, years ago when I got my first email address at the uni, the network there was Novell, all usernames limited to eight characters only... so they shortened it to vondrack. I have gradually become using it everywhere for login, since it is so unique it is never taken...

If I was free to choose whatever nick I wanted, I would go with one of LotR names - Gandalf or Aragorn. I love that story and those two characters are somehow very close to my heart. But guess what... I can't remember the last time they were not taken.

rush does not refer to rush-building units/improvement etc in the Civ III sense.

rush was taken from the name of former-Liverpool striker Ian Rush (This is English football, to all you American football crazy people). I was scoring plenty of goals during my high school, my classmates started calling me Rush.

Well, the Zargon part of my name comes from long, long ago, playing some game against my friends that I can't even remember what it was, and I was "Zargon, evil alien overlord." In retrospect, I think I might have subconciously gotten the name from the old Voltron cartoon, but who know The "X" comes from registering in places that already had someone using Zargon, and instead of tacking a number on, I thought an X was much more interesting. It just kind of stuck after that...

Back many years ago during my AD&D experimentation, I was painting up my little figurines trying to come up with a name for my all new and powerful characters. Looking around my room, I spotted the little paint tins.

Thus... Acrylic (Fighter/Mage) and Enamel (Cleric/Fighter) were born.

Enamel became the more famous of the two, and was an immediate choice as an internet nick.

When the almighty Diablo II arrived in Australia, I immediately tried to register Enamel on Battle.net, but it was already taken......Grrrrr

I dallied in an Australian clan or two....one of which was Hero's of Tristram...but it never really took off.
Especially when we were using 56k modems trying to access US Battle.net servers.

However it did leave me with a nice tag .... H.O.T.

Thus Hot_Enamel has been my nick since Diablo II...and as it isn't common, I have been able to stick to it ever since.

In Summary....I was named after paint

I am a wrestling fan

* MrWhereItsAt ducks

* MrWhereItsAt emerges some time later

I have a group of friends who are also fans, and we occasionally get together to watch the shows and play the PS/PS2 Wrestling games. The later games give you the ability to create your own wrestler, so naturally one of my more obsessed friends with a LOT of time on his hands (actor ) created everyone. He would harrass us about moves etc... and my character needed a name.

I had a crush on this girl in second year (Uni) named Beck (short for Rebekah). My friend knew this and, partly from desperation, suggested I name my character after something relating to Beck. Instead, I thought of the singer Beck, and the song "Where It's At". Hence MrWhereItsAt was born. One of my character's signature moves is named "The Devil's Haircut" (a Tornado DDT, for those who know), after another Beck song.

MrWhereItsAt is my hotmail address and my nick all over the place. It's pretty goddamn unique, and easy to remember.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

If you like scientific explanations, you can find out all about MASERS here.

If you like the poetic explanation (as I do), maybe Walt said it best...

When I heard the learned astronomer,
When the proofs, the figures, were ranged in columns before me,
When I was shown the charts and diagrams, to add, divide, and measure them,
When I sitting heard the astronomer where he lectured with much applause in the lecture-room,
How soon unaccountable I became tired and sick,
Till rising and gliding out I wandered off by myself,
In the mystical moist night-air, and from time to time,
Looked up in perfect silence at the stars.
-- Walt Whitman

"Ruby maser" is specifically in the movie Contact.

Tired of ads?

My first nickname on the Internet was "Kermit" - the green frog from the Muppet Show, which was (and is) my favorite show.

But since I couldn't get this name on Yahoo, Hotmail, etc., I picked another character - one of the nameless dancing monsters from the opening scene.

This was a little more unique, however, at Yahoo and Lycos, my login is 'SmallFurryMonster'.

Later, they named a Magic:tG card after me :-)

In chats and such, it's always nice to have a nick that actually appeals to people's imagination.

Shiber is a word game based on my RL name. In Hebrew, it means the central faucet.
I came up with it during 5th grade, and my friends thought that it was clever. It stuck, and since then all my friends call me Shiber.
When I first registered at Apolyton, I considered using my nickname from SubSpace (an online 2D space shooter, nowadays known as Continuum) - Air Farce 1, another wordgame, this time based on the famous presidential airplane. I picked that nick for SubSpace because I suck in most arena types, but eventually I decided that Shiber might be more appropriate for Apolyton.

That's funny, 'cause I had one for a girl in highschool named Rebekah too, though everyone called her Rivi (short for Rivka, which is the biblic hebrew original for Rebekah).

Anyway, for my nick:

I used to call myself "M'Lord", after hearing the oh so famous sound from the warcraft 2 human peasents tens of times a day for several years in a row...

But I had grown up, and M'Lord was too serious for me (although it's origins were not), especially with the "Lord" word.

"zeitan" was and is my username at the admin, which is the first letter of my family name attached to my private name. However, since Apolyton (for some reason), doesn't let you pick the same name as a nick and an email adress, I had to turn it to something else. To make it readable yet cool- I just clipped the "an", and there it is.

'Dominae' is derived from "Astral Dominae", an artifact in the Wizardry series (a computer game). The Astral Dominae was created by the lords of the universe to contain the blueprint for all Life. It plays an integral role in the final game of the series, Wizardry 8 (highly recommended if you like RPGs).

I thought the artifact and the name were pretty cool, so it was easy come up with my nick here on Apolyton (and other places...eh, Theseus!). Also, 'Dominae' is similar to 'dominate', 'domination', etc. which is hopefully evocative to my opponents.

I'm sure there is a real-world connection to 'Dominae' (Goddess?), but I've never looked it up.

Funnily enough, everyone thinks 'Dominae' is a female name, while I associate with it something of neutral gender. This suit me just fine, though, as I get more respect/attention initially in online interactions (like when I joined this Demogame!).

Of course, we could have a thread in the OT forum specifically for us, where we don't give away game related stuff, but other OTers would probably spam it.

Thanks for the comments... I am indeed serious about keeping the private forums dedicated to "the game"...
And I appreciate people trying to remember that as they post in these special forums that were set up for "just" that purpose.

But I really don't see a problem with a "what's behind your name thread". They have appeared at one time or another in many of the on topic forums. In this case, it helps bring the players together, and as long as it doesn't turn into a spam fest... seem fine to me.

It's a Nick that I've had from my time in the USAF back in the early 80's. E.T., as in the Movie with the same name (was first released at that time), but it also comes from a few other things that had happened then.

I sometimes have a sense of Humor that is a bit out of this world and have come up with some things that have been a bit "spacy" at times....

W to the B! Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Well, my name is weird. I get a lot of flak for it sometimes because sometimes people think it has something to do with racism which is 100% not the case.

Basically, a few years ago my cousin and I were on vacation at the river. I was wearing sunglasses and ended up getting FRIED that day, so my face it red, but I take the sun glasses off and I had like a raccoon mask on! Except it was white. So my cousin dubbed me the "White Bandit!" which I decided would make a good alias online and I've since used it.

I was on a geology trip this weekend and ended up getting TANNED, so now I have a stupid sun glasses tan. The White Bandit is back in full effect.

On another note, a few people in geology have weird nicknames that they have been given. Most notable is a guy named "Screw." Well this weekend, people notice that I was constantly munching on food of some sort, but a girl said I don't eat the food, so much as I peck at it. So she thought I should be named "Pecker" ! Thankfully, that nickname doesn't seem like it is going to stick...
