	Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Currently i'm between books.

I finished Daniel Quinn's Ishmael yesterday. I have no idea why I read it, but it was nice.

I'm trying to decide now whethee my next book should be "serious" thought material style book or some interesting sci fi one. Normally it takes me more time to decide what to read than to actually read it.

I just got done with Sword in the Storm by David Gemmell. I've also read The Man in the High Castle / Philip K ****, The Octagonal Raven / LE Modesitt Jr, and A History of China: Opium Wars to the People's Revolution over the last month. I'm currently reading an exciting thriller, SQL 2000 Administration by Exam Cram.

Thoroughly excellent, and (so far) the film was very faithful to the book. I understand the movie departs from the book towards the end, but as I'm only 80% of the way through the book, I can't confirm this yet. Like you, I adore the movie. My current assesment - if you enjoyed the movie, you'll enjoy the book.

Coming close to the end of "The Third Reich - A new history" by Michael Burleigh.

Hobsbawm's "Age Of Extremes" is the last part of his 4 part "Age of..." series, the previous 3 covering the "long" 19th century (1792-1914), and this one covering the "short" 20th century (1914-1990ish).

I've been meaning to read P. K. Dick (In fact, I have "The Man in the High Castle" on the shelf right next to me), but I'll probably have to wait 'til my next science-fiction binge. I've read "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?", but that's because Blade Runner is my favorite film.

Again, too many good books, and not nearly enough time...

I have the short story collection "The Minority Report" by Mr. ****. The stories are very good and most are only twenty pages long. Good for when you need a quick fix.

Currently reading (both non-fiction):

"The wars of the postwar (II)" by Christian Zentner, pretty much an early-mid 70's overview of all postwar conflicts since the Cuban revolution until the Vietnam war.

"The Civil War: two or three Spains?", to try and begin to cure my profound ignorance of the Spanish Civil War.

Contains the memoirs of two Italians who fought on opposing sides of the conflict, and three prologues offering different views on the war itself (by Paul Preston, Sergio Romano and Javier Ruiz Portella).

Dan Simmons's Fall of Hyperion. I finished Hyperion a few weeks ago and the blasted book ended right when things started to get interesting. In other words, they are pretty much one novel split in two parts.

E-books Not everyone fancies reading off the screen, but to me it's become natural. Mainly because of all those scifi titles in English. Finnish is not a good language for science fiction, then again, maybe just personal preference.

The book is pretty good, although rather short. You get a lot more insight into the Narrator and the cult of space monkeys, so yeah read it.


Sir Ralph, is Baudolino any good? Eco is my favorite writer, but I refuse to plunk down 27$ US for a new hardcover book. I 've heard mixed reviews on this particular title.

Im reading: Did the Devil make Darwin do it? by Assorted authors, Foucault's pendulum by Eco (my favorite book), The portage to San Christobal of AH by georg steiner.

I just finished reading OSC's Shadow Puppets... very good book. I wonder if there will be another sequel to the Ender's Game series.

OSC is helping develop a computer game too, and it looks very nice! Advent Trilogy -- there's a preview of it on Gamespy. The link is on the front page of www.philoticweb.net

i just finished neil gaiman's american gods. over all i think it's an intersting take on the concept, and a rather nice twist at the end.

now, i'm onto clive barker's everville. it picks up about five years after the great and secret show, and it promises to be jus as exciting.

"Everville" is an excellent continuation of the themes/characters introduced in "The Great and Secret Show", and I hope Barker writes a third book in the series someday.

If you haven't already, I strongly suggest you read Barker's "Imajica". It's frigging huge, but marvelous through and through (although I didn't get all the way through on my first attempt) and it has a wonderful conclusion.

indeed. i picked up the great and secret show partly because of its size. i had alot of time to read last year, and was flying through books. it was also my first book by barker. it's so outlandishly bizarre, and it makes it seem so matter-of-fact that it amazed me.

It's one of the (very) few books I stopped reading without finishing it. Complete crap IMO.

Oh, and I just finished the last Grisham. Gotta read Rendez vous with Rama for the second time now

There's two more books in the series, Endymion and (I think) Rise of Endymion. Excellent story.
