Gray Davis might be recalled in California Support Apolyton

I dont know how many of you guys know this but here in California there is a movement to recall Davis form his office as governor of California. There have been previvous attempts to recall governers in past times, but none of them ever got the need signitures to go on the ballet and none were ever taken seriously. Now the people running the signiture gathering claim to have arround 600,000 unvarified signitures and that they are getting about 20,000 new ones everyday. Davis has taken note of this and is trying to stop the effort and he has even hired people to pretend that they are gathering signitures for the recall when really they are not.

They need about 900,000 varified signitures, so they need about 1.2 million to make sure enough valid signitures are gathered and have untill Semptember to do it. Personally I will be happy to see the man kicked out, as California has a 38 Billion dollar debt and he hid this fact during the past election. So what do you all think?

Gray Davis is finished... so at least I hope. I am moving to California in August.. and I hope he is either defeated in an election or recalled.

Put an end to popups!

I think he was an idiot and he wasted huge amounts of money that people will have to pay in the future because he didn't have the balls to deal with the energy situation at the time by rationing or by raiseing rates. But he was also playing along with the stupidity of Californians in that respect. I don't thing the recall isappropriate for this type of offense. It should be reserved for ethical transgressions.

I think so. I dont want the taxes to be raised, instead to cut the overspending the governer and legislature have done. They seem to love spending money they dont even have. The Democratics seems to only want to borrow money and raise taxes and cut very little funding. When Gray Davis gets recalled, it will wake the rest of them up and who knows it might very well spread to the legislature.

Well voters can recall for any reason they want really, and Gray Davis is sucks and if he stays in I dont know what will happen. Gray Davis also gets lots of donations from various groups and often he gives them special favor in return for the money. He also hid the buget decift during the election. I think these offenses alone are enough to consider them ethical transgressions.

I don't really care if he leaves. He cut services anyway. Let the Republicans try to deal with California's problems. They caused all the problems anyway. After they have a chance we can elect a real Democrat.

I loathe Davis, but normal political games aren't enough justification to recall an elected politician. It should be reserved for something Clintonian or Nixonian in nature. Even if the signatures are gathered, it's not likely to succeed, and the legislature won't give a rat's ass. Their future isn't in elected office, it's in the payola they get from their sponsors after they get out, and Repubs in the legislature (or governor's office) haven't proven to be much more useful than the Dems.

The best thing that could happen to California would be if about 10 million people were motivated to move back where they came from.

What Republicans "caused all the problems?"

And a "real Democrat" like those bay area frootloops Brown, Brown and Boxer?

Yeah, let's bring back the Moonbeam and Willie show!

Any chance of Arnold Schwarzenegger running? He seems to be the name I hear most of from the Republican side to run for California governor but then again I don't live in the state so what do I know.

Tired of ads?

Wilson and Deukmejian were asses too. Or God *shudders* anyone remember Evelle Younger? California is great at producing some really bad politicians, because of the nature of the county party organizations.

Riordan would have wiped the floor with Davis in the last election, but he wasn't ideologically "pure" enough for the local Republican party, so they went for the absolutely unelectable Simon, just to prove some obscure point.

The San Diego County Democratic Party offices are in the building next to my office in SD, and from seeing and hearing them, it's a wonder any Democrat can get elected down here.

Then Clinton, via his lawyers, should have objected to the line of questioning and refused to answer until the matter of those objections was addressed on in law and motion and then on appeal. That's standard deposition procedure, although usually nobody bothers with addressing the objections in law and motion, because you move forward with other discovery and then trial.

Clinton was a lawyer, so he knew this. (and it wasn't the state, it was private civil litigation) Once he chose to answer, the issue of whether the line of questioning was proper became moot, which Clinton as a lawyer also knew. Once he chose to answer, he was under oath, so he was obligated both as a matter of law, and as a matter of professional ethics as an admitted attorney, to clearly and truthfully answer those questions he was asked.

Why would Feinstein step down from a senate seat, where she is getting a good deal of bipartisan respect (and seniority), to run for governor?

California is not at all more liberal than in the 70's. The bay area is as frootlooped as ever, but a good portion of Boxer's success is due more to the cost of campaigning in California compared to other states. On a national level, the RNC likes having Boxer in office, because she's a good propaganda tool, and the same amount of money they'd have to contribute to fund a competitive campaign in California (with it's high media costs) would be effective at tipping three or four other states. From a national majority perspective, one Senate seat is worth the same as any other, so spreading money over three or four smaller states rather than piling it into California makes sense.

Normally I don't like degrading myself.. but you are starting to sound like me in my inferences that all world problems are caused by communists.

Actually the cold hard facts are this: The democrats the ones responsible for the mess in California. Davis is the one responsible. His incompetence and piss poor management skills caused the state to have a lot of problems.

Infact kiddo, it seems like Gray Davis is effectively making the state turn republican because of his own screw ups and the consistent screw ups of the democrats as a whole.

I am inclined to disagree with that. Sure the San Francisco area is how shall we say... crazy... But most of California on the other hand is not more liberal than the 70s.

I am going to vote Republican when I turn 18 being a resident of California. I hope Schwarzenegger is gonna run.. and yes he could win just because of his sheer popularity.

It depends a lot on how he presents himself. If he goes the social conservative route a la Simon, probably not much, even with the anti-Davis backlash. If he positions himself as a moderate Republican on social issues, but a fiscal conservative, he would have a very good chance, but that unfortunately means a lot of hardline local Republican party types won't likely support him. Maybe, just maybe, with the way the state's fiscal crisis affects their livelihoods, they'll bend a bit, but they didn't when it came down to the Riordan-Simon contest.

The problem with the Cali Republican Party Oberkommando and it's county party HQ's is that they're more interested (for statewide office) in ideological purity with the social conservatives than they are with winning.

Since when are you a resident of Cali? The last story you told was how your daddy was some sort of US FSO who was going to be the next ambassador of the Republica de Carajo, or some other Latinamericano paradise. And if you think it makes you to play games with residency so you can sponge off the state budget, then you're an example of the kind of BS entitlement games that contribute to the state's financial condition. I wouldn't brag about it, personally.

Hey when overseas, as my dad works for the US government I have to be a resident of some state. My dad still pays California State Taxes, and I have two relatives who are in California. One is in University and also registered as a resident, and the second one is working for some high tech company.

My dad pays plenty taxes as it is.

Ah, ok, so you're one of those dirty immigrants coming in to add to the overcrowding and sponge off of limited public services. At least you're not another ****ing Zonie, though.

Why go to a half-assed school like CSUN, though, instead of USC? Especially if daddy has money?

CSUN isn't a half assed school. I heard it was pretty good from my sister who has done a lot of research in that area.
