A railroad from Russia to Egypt!

Now, with Iraq slowly coming together, and maybe signing a peace treaty with Israel, a railroad from Cairo to Russia is possible, geographically.

If The networks of Israel and Iraq will be connected, as well as a railroad from Egypt to Israel, and from Iraq to Georgia, We can have transportation by land.

Is it feasible economically?

Agree. Another railways station could help, though.

Well, what would be the goal - transport of persons or freight (or both). How much people would use it? Wouldn´t they rather use planes? I don´t know how expensive flights are currently in Russia and the ME, but in Europe (and AFAIK also the US) you can have pretty cheap flights.

Let's check the trade balance between Egypt and Russia, shall we? Or wider, The trade balance of the SW CIS to NE Africa.

All that trade is through low tech goods, so you get more cargo than a trade balance of Diamonds or High-tech chips. More Cargo= More money.

Another important thing to check is the cost of transport by ship, and the speed of transport. ( I suspect that the Railroads will have an advantage, but I am not sure ).

Sad.
Then a couple of questions. Who will pay for this? And who will build it?
As I understand Israel don't have much experience with really long railroads. Russia has the longest railroads in the world, the largest summary lenght of all its railroads and the most experience with long railroads. That means we should build it. ...in this case...YES!!! It's VERY possible economically!!! You pay, we build- everyone happy.
We should start at once!!! When we can sign a contract?

Who will pay? The venture capitalists, of course.

Ok, let's register a company, hire some people to build an economic analysis of such a railroad, and if possible, start looking into construction contractors with the needed experience, and reliability.

Cool.
I know whole bunch of people who know how to build rairoads. They are my former teachers from my former university and my buddies who still work on various railroads around the country. We could gather them and make concept of this new railroad, then we could drink to celabrate such great event...then we could wake-up in police and our project will be closed permanently

hi ,

there is no problem with our railroad , but one you hit egypt , .... or jordan , or any of our neighbors its a disaster , ......

both for cargo and people

if they are willing to invest , and expand and spend money on that railroad that leads from iraq ( has not been maintained since 91 ) to aqaba then we are talking , ..... all that would be needed is a track from Beersheba to Eilat and we are talking

have a nice day

That's the problem with Russia. If you want to do such bussiness, and say... the contractor ****s up, it could take ages to get him in court. And I don't even mention various "Krisha" to which people must pay.

Believe me no one else except state can't build railroads in Russia. And MPS (minestry of railroads) don't need "krysha".
It's not a problem. So are you hiring or not? Should I call to my "odnakashniky" and tell them that soon we are going to Israel? First of all we should check the site where the road will be started, you know...beaches..bars..

hi ,

beaches , bars , harbors , shipping docks , repairs , etc , ...

we are the only nation who has it in the region , ....

drydocks you say , we have them also , and a large holding ownes a couple in Greece and Malta also , ...

with the link the entire region shall get benefits , ....

the only problem is the size of tracks compared to russia , but that can be overcome to make one track fit both types like in Australia or a container terminal

have a nice day

I wonder what the use of such a railroad would be. Usually, long railroad lines are used by passengers commuting on only a part of it.
For example, on the Paris-Vienna, there are many people who only do the Paris-Strasbourg, the Karlsruhe-Stuttgart, or the Vienna's Suburbs - Vienna Centre.

If the railroad connection between fairly big cities of the region isn't enough, then such a railroad would be worth it...

I also wonder what would be the use of such a railroad when it comes to freight. In the region, I'd suppose oil is cheap as hell (ok, maybe not in Israel), and that no country really cares about environment. So I wonder why trucks would be replaced by trains, which are less flexible.

Anybody knows the amount of landbased commerce between Egypt and Jordan ? Or Israel and Georgia ?

Azazel : I think I understand the real motive behind the idea.

We'll build a rail, sign an RoP agreement with Jordan, Iraq, Turkey and Georgia and now that our tanks can move instantaneously, we'll invade Russia!
