FIRAXIS crossed the line Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

I could somehow live with the messed up causality of Alphabet and Writing System and other historical inaccuracies of CivIII, but now I've lost my faith that FIRAXIS does care even the slightest bit. It's unbearable:
quote:
Civilization III: Conquests will feature a brand-new single-player campaign that will model eight different famous historical campaigns, including the battle for Mesopotamia, the battles between the Mayans and Incans, the struggle for control of feudal Japan, and even World War II.

The famous wars between Incas and Mayas?
Just because the average ignorant can't tell the difference, does that mean that one doesn't have to care?
I'm disappointed!

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Agree
Besides the game have multiples civs and we can 'see' a battle between America vs Carthage, that is not reason for telling us that the new xp have "famous historical campaigns" and mix up the Mayans and the Incas. It's incredible.

Tired of ads?

I rather think there will be an open "precolombian America" scenario, in which all present Civs will end up making contact and probably fight.
However, I can't imagine the game being shipped with a scenario called "The Mayan-Incan war" The press report is likely to have shortened it.

I actually find Central / South American history quite frustrating... there were NO civ-level wars until the Aztecs... sheesh, what were they thinking?? As we all know, ultra-early war ROCKS!!

Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

I think that the Mayans and Inca WERE contemperary, but the Incans were a lot older and on the decline when the Mayans popped up (could be the other way around, I'm not sure). But anywho, I'm just excited about the new stuff. WWII sounds like it will be tons of fun! WWII in Civ2 had SOOO much potential, but it should've been included in the Scenarios expansion pack with new units (tiger tanks, U-boats, Russian red guard infantry, shock troops,) and a floatilla of air units. I'm really hoping that the Civ III conquests version will have a bunch of awesome troops and airplanes...

You're crazy. Everyone knows that Paraguay has the strongest navy in South America.

Anyway, I was reading something earlier about how Pizarro killed the leader of the Incans, so I guess they were around in later years. Unless I'm mistaken and it was the Mayans.

I get it; not all North American young men are ignorant about these things, you know.

But back on the subject, hopefully these "Mayan-Incan wars" are simply a typo by their copywriter, and it is really just a pre-Columbian America scenario.

But honestly, Presi: Was the battle of Iquique against the Peruvian or Bolivian fleet?

Actually that's true the Bolivians do have a Navy and war boats in that lake

The Naval Combat of Iquique and the Naval Combat of Punta Gruesa were against the Peruvian fleet.

The Inca (or Inka) and the Aztec were contemporaries. Both were destroyed in effect by Spanish colonization and the conquistadors. It is known that these two civs traded with each other via sea lanes in the Pacific by using their Balsa wood rafts (believed to have originated in the Northern Peru area). Such trade was limited. Whether the civs traded directly or not is not known, as there were many sub cultures. The Maya were far earlier than both of these civs, and were in effect gone by the time the Inca came around. Remember, the Inca empire was only around for around 100 years before it ended, and had just gone through a major civil war just prior to the Spanish arriving. Although it is conceivable that the Inca and Aztec would have had conflicts, their borders were still far enough apart that they never had any direct land contacts. Where they would have met is probably in the deep jungle/mountains of Columbia or Panama, not very hospitable terrain.

Exactly
The Aztecs and the Chibchas of Colombia had contacts and this last ones had contact also with the Incas so probably the comerce or any kind of exchange was done by the Chibchas as intermediary.

Let's just say, that I might know that it can be played without war (if that's really what you want to do).

In addition, I think Breakaway (Firaxis had very little to do with this scenario) did a little more research than the copy writer at GameSpot did.

Actually, IIRC they used to have, and still may have, two torpedo boats patrolling one of their lakes... So they do have a navy of sorts...
