i can safely say that no mac has ever done that to me either. and the only windows to ever give me grief was winme, which i chalk up to it being the dumbass of the family.

linux is the only one that's cost me data, and that's because i was stupid and dead tired, and typed:

people still use netscape/mozilla. people still use aim, winamp, roxio, and other programs.

apple once had some media programs. i vaguely remember something like macamp. it's gone now. people are using ichat in droves... meaning that aim is struggling to be used, and other third party chat programs have vanished. safari is dominating, eliminating ie and any other third-party browser in its path.
the only thing apple hasn't taken to is incorporating burning software into its os, afaik.

IIRC, WMP can burn CD as well, just not as good. You have to remember too, CD-R burners come with either Nero or EZ CD Creator nowadays.

IBM and Sun are cool.

Yes, Apple is eviller than Microsoft because they are a VERTICAL company. They make the hardware and the software. They would be a much worse monopoly.

However:
- Microsoft is a monopoly and it does leverage its market share to kill off superior competition. For example, it recently undercut a done deal in Thailand by selling its software for pennies to the Thai government. Obviously, their price will be higher once the Thais are locked in while the competition will have been hobbled.
-Mac OS X is architecturally superior to WinXP. BeOS was superior to both, but Microsoft killed it off with draconian anti-dualbooting clauses in its OEM agreements.


BTW, I bet that this utility would have lived for much longer had it been called YBar instead of Y'z Dock. This is like Windows and Lindows, except that the Lindows guys didn't give up at the first C&D.

Perhaps you do not understand this, but B does not follow from A here. An example of MS using a monopoly to kill off "superior" competition would be MS using IE to "kill off" Netscape 4.x. But, the problem with this of course, is Netscape 4.x sucks royal ass, Netscape didn't have a new product out for ages, and Netscape is still around.

Actually, it does. The government had already cut a deal to use a distribution of equivalent open source products. Microsoft price-fixed their way into overturning that deal. Price-fixing is immoral.
