Now I fully expect everyone on this forum to do well...

What is concerning however is no necessarily that certain nations score very poorly on geography questions - but the fact that they still score very poorly when huge geopolitical events occur that directly affect them...

You would want to laugh at the fact that only 16% of the Americans know where sweden is, but then you see that even Europeans are often mistaken.





Remember me saying that I think most people are smart and knowledgeable?

I wonder, how large percentage of the takers answered wrong to every one of those, as a protest?

If I would be leading this nation, I'd force everyone who has a right to vote in parliamentory elections to take this test, and execute everyone who gets under 15/20.

Yah, has been a common mistake around here, apparently people have been taught in western European schools that by the time they've grown up, Islam is the biggest religion, and almost everyone who has been taught like this makes the same mistake. I was told in comprehensive that I should remember Islam as the biggest religion, since it'll overtake Christianity in 'just a few years'.

They never taught me anything about El Nino in my school, all I know about it comes from the media (so that's not much ). I think it's mostly an American/Oceanian thing, doesn't seem to have any obvious effects in Europe and therefore doesn't get as much attention here...

Oh, and I got 20/20 of course...

And I do think Islam will overtake Christianity in the next few decades...

Notable areas where knowledge is lacking:

• The people of Mexico are shockingly ignorant of the crisis in Kashmir. Nor do they seem to know about the AIDS problems in Africa. They don't appear to know what "West" means either.
  
• A large number of people outside Europe don't seem to know that the Euro is a European currency, despite the obvious clue in the name.
  
• A lot of Europeans (like red_jon) haven't heard of El Nino. Non-euros are much more familiar with it.
  
• 11% of Americans can't pick their own country out on a World Map. 38% of them can't find Russia. The Brits are only slightly less stupid in this regard. Shameful.

Well, people should be able to get Sweden if they were listening in history classes. If they have any idea how WWII went, they'd know where Sweden is

I must agree. The results were bad what ever nation we look at. Man.. but hey now we can all feel good about ourselves, and think we are very smart.
