Proactive or Reactive Diplomacy with CDG? Increase Your PM Length

Background for this Poll is the last bits of this thread:
http://apolyton.net/forums/showthre...&threadid=91882

Very simply:

A "Proactive" vote means that we should contact CDG regarding our recent jump on the power graph, inquire as to their wellbeing and express concern, given that our power jump (Since we're doing nothing up here, ahem ahem) means they just took a big hit. We let them know we want them in good health, because we're just peaceful builders after all, and don't want any trouble in these here parts.

A "Reactive" vote means that we should NOT contact CDG, and let them draw their own conclusions. If they do contact us on the matter, we simply point out that Numidians are high point values for power, and we assumed they had taken a big hit recently. We do not suggest anything further.

Cast your votes, please!

I think that contacting them would make it sound like we have something to hide and are trying to cover it up (which we are ). Let them make the first move.

I have no problem having a friendly chat with CDG, or asking them out of the blue, "hey, how are you guys doing in the war?"

Only problem we've had with CDG is getting them to chat in the first place. They seem to selectively read and respond to email and are never in chat ....

wait? Didn't Michealis Rex join one of our PTWDG teams? Does anyone play on the same team as him? Any chance we can "small talk" with him about their war on GC?

MR is frequently in the CivFanatics chatroom. He's not there right now, but he stops by there pretty often (certainly more often than we've had contact with him).

Keeping in touch can never hurt.

An ambassadorial note might be the best way. We can make ourselves comfortable with the expressions, and get it just right.

We can be proactive and reactive at the same time. We just should NOT call them up and say, "Hey, don't worry about us, that power score is just showing that we are building things...." That would be the worst thing to do, IMHO, because it would be more than suspicious, but downright showing them they they need to worry about us

We can keep up contact and just say that we have notice that they must be having a hard time with their war. but we shoudn't advertise it.

He is on GoW; but he is pretty inactive there. I don't normally see him in chats (as in twice in about a month).

Well surely all we need to do is keep talking about other matters....

For instance it is important we know all we can about how the war is going from everyone's side. We want to keep talking and get as much info as possible - let's ask them how they are going and what their plans are for GCA - this would tally with what we have done until now. We should certainly ask whether resistance is heavier than expected or whether they are breezing through - if they ask about our score then let's tell them the truth - we haven't done very much the last few turns except for building a few cities and explored some ocean (at least that's all in the turns I played ).

Basically let's not anxiously bring this up with them straight away, but let's keep trying to get updates from them as we have been, and in the course of these exchanges we should be prepared to explain away the score thing as being from the extra cities, and maybe tie it in to a relative decrease in power of everyone else to us due to the war rather than an increase on our side.

CDG has never been very talkative. Anyway, they know our chatroom for them so they can come up to us whenever they want.

Considering they take ages to respond to our own PMs and requests, I see no reason for us to push them.

CDG most likely has Lit. Perfect cover to begin a dialogue where they may well bring up power themselves. We should not bring it up. We should enquire about the situation with GCA.

When the issue of power is brought up, we slough it off. We say that we saw that, and didn't realise what a couple of worker farm cities and a couple of mercs could do to the graph. We also assumed that losses in the wars played a role. That is so close to the truth that it is the best path to being accepted and the issue dismissed.

Yep, a good opportunity to contact them all right.

And that IS the truth, isn't it? Even if it isn't, the fact that I believe(d) it is(was) should surely mean that we can make CDG believe it too!

GF is also on CDG, though, and could surely pass a message along. I generally see GF once a day or so, even though his activity is down since Panzer...um, evicted him from the palace.

We have a trade agreement of that for CoL. I would assume that they would have been researching it.
