Not yet sleeping. That's ONTOS? I didn't know what they called those.. thanks for that one. I'm more educated now. I don't know why these aren't succesful.. They look pretty good. I think the basic idea seems to be pretty good in that one..

Maybe I should find info why that was a failure. But that's certainly different from my design, as mine purely is based on fire power, very fast rapid fire and mobility. It should be as fast as hmmv's.

But as of now, I have no idea why that design is a failure.

Osweld has summed it up...it is weird. Get excited by cars or aircraft or stamps or postcards, but weaponry, it all seems a bit unpleasant...the enjoyment of pieces of equipment that can cause death on a huge scale...not my idea of pleasant.

Of course you can't drive at full speed and use all the tubes. And it's not very small vehicle now is it. It is light, not tiny, small. Besides the recoil is not that bad.
And the tubes are computerized, it's not like you are supposed to use ALL the tubes at the same time at every situation. That way you just run out of ammo in one minute or something.

And I think there is difference between getting sexually excited and just excited, don't you think?

Don't equip it with engines, but put all of the tubes to one direction, then fire grenades with 10 rpm each, then it'll be ingenious for panic retreating purposes!

PH, if you want to design your own stuff, what ever it may be, then feel free to make a new thread. If not, then please stay on topic. No one said that other designs are not welcome, but they are not welcome. If you want to make modifications to the original model, then they are appreciated, but if you have nothing to contribute, then why not just STFU?

Tuome, I have already explained that problem in earlier post, the recoil and all. It's not a problem, as there is not much recoil to begin with.

Yeah, you're the folks that 'it's impossible to fly to the moon' and then take your words back and come back on your knees hailing the masters . No one believes in my baby yet, I know it looks and sounds unpractical, but where I intend to use it, it is perfect.

Like most of you thinks 'well this is not as good as tanks, not as good fighters or choppers'.. no **** sherlock? This is a unique weapon systems, this is supposed to be supportive weapon, or can be used as an attack vehicle in certain situations. You don't drive this monster in football fields and expect no one shoots it down.

So you want a vehicle that's lighter, smaller and faster than a regular tank. Yet you have many more "cannons" on it, and thus you'd also need much more ammo to carry along. Now a regular tank is already pretty cramped... How do you think you can accomplish this and still have enough space to keep 3 men inside (and not have their ears permanently damaged), and still keep the whole thing light and agile as well?

And then you say it would best be used in cities, without any civilians around... How effective do you imagine your destructive machine to have been in the streets of Baghdad, if that had turned into a massive street guerilla war. On either side of the fighting armies.

Since your machine can't aim, the only real purpose is to bring destruction all around it... And that in a situation where the goal is to keep the whole place intact (seeing as you are defending/liberating people, hopefully so they can continue living in that city afterwards).

If you want destruction, why not drop a smart bomb or cluster bomb on the target. That would sure as hell be cheaper and more effective than your fancy piece of scrap metal. Especially since you seem to admit it's actually rather easy to destroy.

I don't think massive firepower is any use in a street war. Precision weaponry is much more viable.

My desigsn just make s sure you're the one with the most nastieest weapons, and not the ohter guy.

Ontos was an air transportable vehicle used in Vietnam by the U.S. Marines. It was lightly armored, and its main armament consisted of 6 106mm recoiless rifles (IIRC). Its original purpose (when it was designed in the 1950s) was to provide the Army with some air-transportable anti-tank capability. It provided much more firepower and crew protection than the jeep mounted RRs, and was fairly quick and capable of traversing very soft terrain like mud and snow with ease. The Army however rejected it, and the Marines picked it up instead. It was used in Vietnam mostly by the 3rd Marine Division (who deployed past my house on Okinawa on their way to Vietnam).

It was a very good bunker buster, but was made in such small numbers (300) that the Marines had trouble keeping spare parts for it in stock. When the 3rd Marines were pulled out of Vietnam in 1969 they turned over some of these vehicles to the Army who used them until they broke down, and then used them as bunkers in fire bases. The rest of the vehicles were scrapped.

Yes maybe I should be more clear. This is no match for modern tanks in fighting. But it is not AT-weapon or vehicle anyway. And that's why it relies on speed, not armour. Sure, most modern tanks could still take out my babies, but that's why you use artillery and air force to harrash them. This is made to eliminate the enemy living force. This is clearly anti-personel vehicle, and nothing else. Many of the problems these days come from the lack of firepower. This HAS firepower. It is invalid and useless alone, like all other weapon systems as well.

You need to have pretty crazy soldiers to operate Susie Q's. You can take out any vehicle there is pretty easily, don't forget this. This is just another vehicle there, but has firepower from Satan himself. Just think of it like the indy 500's.. with HUGE firepower vehicles. You don't want to be the audience. You just need to have a bit trust and open mind, so we can make it work. It is not ready, it has lots of problems to solve as of now.

Also it can be thought as moveable super granade launching system. You can just drive it where you need it, and start raining them granades like there is no tomorrow. And then quickly drive it to another location before it gets destroyed, as it draws lots of attention.
Put 10 of these beauties, and you pretty much have awesome granade launching abilities at your hand, moveable to any location and most terrains. Just watch the weak points that would be it's insufficient armouring for one, so you can't have it on open fields at all. That's why it is highly mobile, so you can drive it in tough terrains.

Think how great it is in defensive mode. 'We need launchers here, you got 30 minutes and be ready to take co-ordinates, enemy is advancing fast!'. Forget that man.. you just have fixed foxhole for this queen of all launchers, can be very simple so it uses the terrain to protect its front a litte and doesn't stuck out too much from the spot where it is parked. So, instead of fixing launchers and all that, you just hop in, drive this magnificent piece of art to the fixed spot, hope out and have a cigarrette. Took you about 1 minute. If you want to be really fancy about it, you can camoflague it a bit.
Then it's your choice, one man in computer handling the tubes, because obviously you don't want it to cover 360 area, but where you need the fire. If veteran, he can even use the internet at the same time and check out his e-mail, because it's pretty easy to use. Or listen communicaton devices, as the leader has a small comm device to direct the fire if necessary. For example 'MISS Q, DIRECT FIRE AT 010! FULL POWER!' and the dude handling the computer just chooses the tubes and goes full power. Or less than full, let's say 'I NEED 50 GRANADES!' and they go up in few seconds. It's pretty comfortable.

And then there is one guy with the machine gun, ready to give directed fire to any attacking living force, that is more accurate. So, it is very possible this vehicle is targetted to enemy artillery and what not AT-dudes, so you just move it to other fixed spot in matter of minute or two. Of course you have few of these, so fire won't stop, and you can give continuous pounding.

And if bigger attack, yo have the spot fixed so it can take some fire too, so you don't have to move your spot all the time. Then, if someone has nothing better to do, they can go to the roof, and handle the AA machine gun, directing fire to attacking living force, it's a real demoralizer to have those big babies flying around. Maybe even use exlpoding bullets, if you're really in mood for carnage. And if you are getting overrun, just drive away man..

This of course is backed up with everything you normally have, it's just additional power, easy, fast and relatively cheap.

And naturally, this is just one method of using it in defensive mode. There are tons of other things you can use this.
