GCA has an embassy with us and has had one since 750BC! Suffering from ads?

* MrWhereItsAt waves hands manically

Where the f*** is the GCA diplomacy thread, because this really belongs there. I will attach it when soemone finds the thread for me.

As reported further here , GCA had established an embassy with us after our 775BC turn. As far as I can tell this is not something that has been noticed before, so excuse me for flashing the news around.

Okay, let's sit and consider exactly what this means and doesn't mean. Unless they have immense supplies of cash - unlikely in their double war- they probably haven't investigated many, or any of our cities. They HAVE investigated our capital, obviously- what did they see, and what might they know as a result of it?

Probably not a whole lot more than they could have gleaned when we traded maps with them. They've obviously already seen our improvements to the jungle terrain in our area, and the resources we have hooked up. But our capital isn't really holding much right now.

When MrWIA saw that they had the embassy, that was the first thing we looked at

What they would have seen was that we had a barracks, a granary, and a veteran warrior defending the city. We were building a temple.

I don't have a copy of that save, but MrWIA said we were short on cash, so GCA would have to figure we'd just spent a lot of money on upgrades (which we did).

Now since we currently realize that the embassy is a turn old and not this turn, how much money was in the bank then and would that change that conclusion? Somehow, I thought we'd turn down the science slider this past turn (10%, right?) so we could save money for an investigation of CDG... so last turn we would have been truly broke.... but would they have seen the city before our upgrades and how much money did we have before that?

I can't answer that one since I don't have a copy of last turn's save

Either way, the only thing they saw in Apolyton was the granary, a barracks, and a warrior...

Conclusions based upon that?

- We've been in REX, especially given the low pop of the city when it has a granary. So they can surmise that we've been using the fact that everyone else is at war to REX rather than fight... thus accounting for our many cities.

- We're building a temple. Perhaps they might then view us as the cute furry builders we pretend to be... or perhaps they're paranoid enough to be suspiciuos. Who knows.

Either way, they have to figure we've been using the war as an opportunity to REX while everyone else is bashing each others' skulls in.

Then again, they're going to see that we're "strong" militarily toward them... I can certainly understand why they are suspicious.

Arnelos: actually most of that is incorrect. You're off by a turn and Apolyton doesn't have a Barracks. They could guess another city has one, but we could have gotten our Warrior up to vet status via hunting barbs.

The turn they built the embassy we had a nearly full food box (1 turn) and was 1 turn away from finishing a Worker. We had 1 vet Warrior inside, science was at 80%. They could see how our tiles inside our capital's radius are being used by all sorts of cities. They could see our treasury and that we have both of our resources connected.

That's all they could see.

I would have reported this earlier, but it happened while Poly was down and there was such a mess of info flying around I never had the chance to post it.

Let's not stress, there is nothing GCA could have learned about our ULTIMATE plans from this embassy. Even if they learned we're upgrading a few swords, they already know we are going to attack the weak CDG cities. Frankly, if we have to upgrade swords to do the attack, it demonstrates that our army is primarily defensive units ... we don't have the attackers needed already standing by.

Also note, they're going to see granaries, temples, and other buildereque structures. I think their embassy view just backs up their original thoughts about us and backs up our claims thus far.

They have paid the money we'd need to pay to get an embassy with them. We can now spy on them and determine much more useful intel than they can learn from us.

All in all, this is a good thing as no vital intel has been (or could be) given to GCA, and we now have access to their cities for investigation if we choose.
