2nd attempt at a Public Announcement Tired of ads?

On the main forum, we post

quote:
The GoW does not recognize the Gathering Storm ownership of any cities gifted by RP. GS has no influence of control over these cities, and it is simply a cowardly tactic used by RP, in a desperate attempt to thwart the advancing armies of ND & GoW.

If GS wishes to enter the war on Bob, then we encourage them to do so openly in the public forum, state their allegiances, and declare war. This abuse of the game mechanics has surprised the GoW, and that GS would so opening disregard their honour code and resort to such a cheezy tactic.

This ensures that we are not officially breaking our NAP.
If we dont recognise the transfer, then taking the cities are not a hostile action.

This is the communication, I would sent to GS

To the members of Gathering Storm.

The GoW is in utter disbelief that the GS would not offer a limited ROP through Bilbao territory. We were willing accept the transfer of RP cities to GS as a minor nuisence, but to flaunt our agreed NAP so openly has outraged us.

We quote part of your response

quote:

We regret that we must deny permission for any forces to cross our territory, which has recently been enlarged to include Toledo. We are at war with neither RP nor GoW. We do not wish to advantage either side through access to that land.

It is GoW opinion that simply accepting RP cities that are clearly objectives in our war, and then denying us access through them, is close to actively engaging in hostility against us

We quote our NAP

quote:

This contract is a declaration of a Non Aggression Pact between Gathering Storm and Glory of War. Neither team will engage in hostile activity against the other team for the duration of the contract.

It is now our policy, that if GS accepts any further cities from RP without our approval, the GoW will take this as a hostile action, and claim that GS is in direct violation of our NAP.

GS’s current actions, have forced us into releasing the following announcement on the main forum.

Our riders this turn, have taken the Roleplay city of Bilbao. Furthermore (assuming our ND allies do not get there first) we will move to take Toledo.

The GoW still understands that our NAP is still in effect, and will not engage in hostilities against any GS units. If GS wishes to break our NAP and declare war, then please do so now in the open forum, so that we are then released from our confidentiality clause of our NAP, and we can post details of GS breaking it, and their honour code to the remaining teams.

Secondly, we would like to make our position very clear to GS, if you break our NAP.
The GoW will spend every dollar, and every shield produced in our Golden age to build military units to attack and destroy every GS unit, landing on Bob. We will ensure, that the GS invasion will be bloody for both sides and every inch of territory claimed by GS, will cost dearly in military strength. We will not stop. We will actively engage your units across the continent and support our ND allies in their final destruction of RP.

If, the RNG gods do not act in our favour, and GS does gain dominance on Bob, the GoW will still send unit after unit to attack GS positions, right down to our last city.

Our final act, will be to request a city from Lego, whom we will pledge our allegiance. We will support Lego in every way possible, to deny GS a win in this game. This will include gifting technology & gold, using Chinese workers for land improvements, defence of their continent, and finally a vote on the UN.

We encourage GS to think hard about their pending decision. The GoW understands that we had an informal plan in the works as to how GS & GoW can work together in the future. The GoW is still committed to this plan.

We implore GS to reconsider our original offer. Send your war machine to Bob. Help us make the RP war short, so that there is minimal loss of military units by all of us. Then, as allies, discuss how we shall act in the future.

Yours sincerely,

GoW

Got spare money?

Gentlemen,

I aknowledge that I am perhaps the worst writer among us. But I want to make sure GS completely understands our position. If they truely believe that the final two teams will be Lego & GS, then they must take pause to consider their actions. Our allegence to Lego may surprise them (whether we do it or not can be debated later). And we have given them a way out by still stating our support of their team.

I strongly suggest that the above announcement and GS correspondence gets approved and posted.

1) No taking of Bilbao, leave it for ND.

Here's the message I plan to send to Zeit and notyoueither, I don't think we should make this a public announcement yet.

quote:

GS:

It is with great concern that I write to you today. The Glory of War considers the Gathering Storm a kindred spirit in team beliefs but your actions of late have undermined that belief.

quote:

We regret that we must deny permission for any forces to cross our territory, which has recently been enlarged to include Toledo. We are at war with neither RP nor GoW. We do not wish to advantage either side through access to that land.

Our intentions re RP are not fully concrete as of yet. We are inclined to look favourably on a civ who has welcomed us to Bob. As of this point, our goals in the conflict would be to finish what other nations start.

Respectfully

nye

cc GhengisFarb, Master Zen, UnOrthOdOx

Your team has purposely accepted Roleplay cities for THE SOLE PURPOSE of preventing our capture of them. This violates the spirit and intent and virtually violates the specific wording of the following document:

quote:
This contract is a declaration of a Non Aggression Pact between Gathering Storm and Glory of War. Neither team will engage in hostile activity against the other team for the duration of the contract.

The contract becomes effective on turn 126, 50 BC and will remain in effect for a duration of 30 turns, cancelling after turn 156, 400 AD.

The contract is considered Top Secret and will be treated as such by both teams and by their members. No memeber of either team is allowed to discuss the existence, or details, of the contract with anyone who is not a member of either Gathering Storm or Glory of War.

Signed:
Glory of War Team

Ratified:
Gathering Storm

By denying us the right to continue on our campaign you ARE WAGING WAR AGAINST US. Both our teams know this is being done to prevent the Glory of War from capturing the cities of the enemy. We accepted Bibao as your team was merely taking an opportunistic moment but any more than that is going beyond opportunistic and becoming willful agressiveness against a NAP partner.

If you accept Toledo or any other city beyond Bilbao it may be viewed as an act of war and violation of the before ratified NAP. We do not wish war with GS, we both need to be strong for the upcoming wars but we will defend our sovereign rights to exist and fight our enemies. Sovereign rights you are attempting to deny us.

If we had accepted Eliopolis as a gift from Vox before you took it, how would you have felt?

GhengisFarb, Ambassador of GoW.

Did you say "We do wish war with GS" !!!!!!!

It's pretty damn good GF but ...

GS galleys can reach Bilbao
If they get units in it before ND gets there, ND & GoW will lose units trying to take the damn city that is going to autoraze.

Secondly, I truely believe GS wants to join in on the war. We are their easiest target, and they want us to void the NAP so they can attack.

The threat to swear allegience to Lego for a UN win may make them reconsider.

They are NOT afraid of us...they think they can take us.
Truthfully...it does not matter if who can win.
It's just that if they do attack, GoW will bear the brunt, and we will have to pull our units from the RP war.

I think we make sure they understand...an attack on us, we mean they will lose the game. GoW probably wont win...but we can make damn sure GS will lose.

That is what we must make them afraid of.

Send it on to GS it seems to get to the point. I am still uncertain if GS really wants to go to war or not. They must have known we would have to take action, but then again maybe they thought we would let them get cities here free of charge due to our fear. But lets be honest here, Gs is powerful but they are not all powerful. Even they probably do not want to take on 2 nations in their GA at the same time. Us and Nd can really crank out units now at a rate of approx 1 per turn. Thats 40 units over a GA. Gs would have to transport units and then deposit them. If they could win before our production kicks in it could be bad, but that is unlikely. The conclusion I have come do after crunching the numbers is that GS is bluffing and hoping the"our military is weak compared to them" will keep us from doing what is necessary. GS has to create units in the south then transport them. They can not magically move them so their resupply up north is ify at best and if the initial attack fails they face the possibility of counter attack up north.

If we sent our stack "south" then we have just violated their borders.
That makes us aggressors...wheich means we violated the treaty.

This is why I want to put up the public announcement before they get the save. If we dont recognise the transfer, then we have done nothing illegal.

If we mention it publicly we will have violated the NAP. The NAP says we can't mention its existence to other teams. In my opinion, the sooner we send a response to GS the better, the problem is we can't get approval to send the response to GS.

The way I have written the announcement does not mention the NAP...nor does it say that we are going to violate borders or take over cities.

It is simply stating we dont recognise the transfer... therefore we can do anything we want, when we want.

2) If they act like little *****es, force THEM to make the public statement. Threaten them that if they do, we'll make all details of the NAP and how they've broken their honor code.

Why all this talk about worring about breaking the NAP?

WHO CARES ANY MORE!!!

RP will be dead. Lux is dead and Vox doesn't matter. This leaves Lego, ND and GS. We have proven to be great allies with ND and if we break the NAP to further a war that we planed for SOOOOO long, they will understand (and still trust us). If we violate the NAP with GS, who cares if they don't trust us anymore? Now Lego. They are perfectly willing to just sit there and build. We have all but allied ourselves publicly with making them the winner. They will trust us.

Our reputation be damned! It no longer matters! GS will scream blody murder no matter what, and people will agree with their position that we violated the NAP, but the same people who agree that what we did was wrong will still be glad we did it.

The problem with waiting for a response from GS.

They get to make the first accusation. By entering into their borders, we have violated their territory, therefore committed a hostile action, and therefore broken the NAP.

Because we requested permission to enter their borders previously, we have already acknowledged that GS own those cities, and we have no right to be in them.

That puts us in a difficult position…

By making the public announcement, we are basically covering our asses now.
We are NOT stating that we will invade their territory, kill units or take over towns.
We are simply stating that the transfer of those towns is not recognized, and we will do as we please.
Therefore we have set the foundation for our defense, that we have not broken any NAP.

I agree with Donegeal, that we are coming close to the end of the game, were agreements may no longer hold any value. However GS have their honor code, and all this wrangling is merely to make it as difficult for them as possible to attack us. If they can’t attack, then we can hamper their movements to attack ND.

GS need to know that we are not afraid of them, and that we are willing to go to war with them regarding this issue. In the end, it is irrelevant who will win or who thinks they can win. What is important, is that they understand we are in a frame of mind that we no longer care about winning, all we care is about GS losing.

Therefore, we will use every resource available to us to attack and hurt them, and with the final blow, being a UN vote against them. This must make them reconsider their options.

Thus… my argument why I still think we need the public announcement, and why we need to step up to the plate and get a little more demanding & aggressive to GS. The end result being they must get off Bob before we talk about future alliances and how we can win the game as allies.

PS.. if we do make the announcement, and RP flames us about breaking the NAP with GS.. We CANNOT respond, as we agreed to not let any team know we have a NAP. This will also void the contract. We must wait, until GS bring the NAP up.

We can argue that not granting us permission violated the NAP in the first place as it hampering our war effort is withouht a doubt a hostile act.

Second of all, by making the accusation public, GS violates the secrecy of the NAP. Remember than in our private message to them we are explicitly stating that the NAP was violated by their refulal to allow us permision to pass. If they want to argue it in public, let them, their diplomatic skills aren't 1/10 of their civ skills and we'll make mincemeat out of them in the public forums.

What I do agree is that we must make our intention ot take toledo public as soon as the save is in our hands and we plan to take it.

Their response:
quote:

In reply to the message from GhengisFarb, entitled 'Disappointed'

Greetings, Glorious Warriors,

We of Gathering Storm have no desire to fight your great nation, but we must maintain our sovereignty. One key aspect of sovereignty is the power to enter into mutually beneficial agreements with other nations, and your demands for veto power over our agreements with Spain are a violation of our sovereignty.

The cities we obtained from Spain are not merely useless baggage with no value other than getting in your way. They are already able to contribute to our nation, and can someday contribute far more with courthouses and the proper tile improvements in place. Corruption in those cities is certainly a problem, but by no means an insurmountable one. Further, with a territory expansion, Toledo can provide us with a source of silks within our own territory.

We recognize that our obtaining those cities through diplomatic means before you could annex them militarily has caused you a certain amount of inconvenience. But the opportunity we were presented with to obtain land diplomatically instead of having to fight for it was too good to pass up. Surely you can recognize that a non-aggression pact is not a “won’t take advantage of any opportunity that the other would find inconvenient” pact. Further, GoW did not shed a single drop of blood in an effort to take those cities (indeed, you are not even at war with RP in-game yet), so it is not as if we are depriving you of prizes of an ongoing battle.

All we are really guilty of is that our diplomats moved faster than your Riders in obtaining land that both of us regard as desirable in spite of its high corruption levels. We have not taken or threatened anything that belongs to you. We have not taken or threatened anything you had any legitimate claim on beyond the mere fact that you wanted to take it in the near future.

In closing, we would like to make it clear once again that a non-aggression pact is not a right of passage agreement. Your moving through our cities to attack Roleplay is little different from if we moved through your lands to attack Neu Demogyptica from the north, a movement that surely would require more than a mere non-aggression pact to justify. Further, Gathering Storm has a long-standing policy of viewing unauthorized movement of foreign military forces into our territory as an act of aggression against us, as the fate of Mad King Donegeal’s expedition into our lands can surely attest. Our policy of not allowing foreign soldiers into our lands (especially while we are at war) is not merely something we made up on the spot to get in your way. We are willing to overlook your forces’ current presence in our territory, but must insist that they return the way they came.

Please let us know whether you intend to honor our non-aggression pact or not so we can make our plans accordingly.

Sincerely,

The People of Gathering Storm

There is no Non Agression Pact, you have already violated it by engaging in hostile activity against us. Your attempts to put words in our mouth is a testement to how well Roleplay is controlling you. No longer do you honor your agreements but attempt to disguise the breaking of them with flowering words.

To take cities right before we attack them, not all at once mind you just cities we prepare to attack, and then demand our troops withdraw is HOSTILE ACTIVITY. Slowing down and detouring our troops is HOSTILE ACTIVITY, Giving Inchon to Roleplay to move vast numbers of troops to invade Bob is HOSTILE ACTIVITY. Landing large numbers of troops on Bob with your fleet is HOSTILE ACTIVITY. You have dishonored the NAP not once, but repeatedly, and left us with NO OTHER COURSE FOR SURVIVAL but to defend ourselves and the worthless paper you refuse to honor.

Personally, I like the proposed response because it keeps hammering "HOSTILE ACTIVITY", broken honor, and whatsnot throughout the message.

GF – I would take your response much, much further.

Lets stop dicking around with these guys.

The above response is telling them that they have broken the NAP. If not the exact wording, then at least the spirit of it.

Tell them what is going to happen…GS has clearly hampered our forces and are therefore aligning themselves against us. There is not going to be a diplomatic solution to this unless one of us backs down. And it isn’t going to be GoW.

Include something like this…

We would like to remind you, that your diplomats were only able to negotiate territory BECAUSE of our damn riders at their borders. To suggest that you expect us to accept your action without a military response is arrogance to the extreme. GS getting free territory on Bob because of our war is simply not going to happen.

The GoW does not recognise the transfer of ownership of those cities.

We will be taking the following actions on our next turn.
Bilbao will be captured/destroyed this turn. If there are any GS military units within the city, they will be killed as unlawful combatants.

The next turn, Toledo will also be captured. Again, if we find and GS units within the city walls, they will be killed as unlawful combatants.

The GoW does not wish to go to war with GS. But we will not accept any GS military or settlement presence on Bob. GS has clearly broken the terms of our NAP. The GoW is quite prepared to go to war on this issue.

To avoid conflict between our two nations. Only the following can happen. We understand that your diplomatic standing with RP will be tarnished, if you gift Bilbao & Toledo to GoW, so we therefore demand that you either allow the GoW to take the cities, or disband them yourselves. Gifting the cities back to Roleplay is likewise unacceptable. {this last sentence is optional}

The GoW will hold the save on our turn for our full 24 hours in order for GS to reply to this correspondence.

May the RNG have mercy on our souls

Guys... lay down the law to GS ... please do not screw around.

I did not mention the UN vote.. I would save that for the next bit of correspondence.

But we have to tell them the straight up what is going to happen. And also give them a chance to back out.
ie they gift the cities back or disband them.
