lets decide on a theme for round three! Support Apolyton, buy GURPS/ Alpha Centauri

okay the first one was historical, next one fictional, what should the third one be? I think we should go back to historical. I think it should be some sort of medieval war scenario, but not one thats been done to death.

I dunno...a real fantasy scenrio (not sci-fi) might be cool. Or an historical/fantasy scenario (history mixed with legends).

#1 Historical
#2 Fictional

I agree with Mark. It seems too me that #3 should be Fantasy, no? BTW congradulations again Mark, nice job!

I think creativity and originality should be the goal of the contest. That will make the scenarios more fun to play.

Ohh, an I suggest ToT as the format.

What do ya think?

Two contests? I guess that that is the most fair thing to do. One problem is that ToT scenarios are going to take twice as long to do as FW/MGE. New graphic sizes, four maps, four sets of terrain, three icons for each improvement, more events, is going to add up.

What is the normal time limit to create a scenario? Four months?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not opposed to a split contest I just wanted to point out that ToT is going to take longer to produce.

Well, we're taking suggestions for the theme of contest #3 I would really like to see something that takes place in Asia, a much underused continent in scenarios.

Some random ideas: British in India; WW2 in China and the red revolution; one of the many ancient unifications of China.

well i don't think there are enough scenarios about the invasion of england by a european power!

seriously The British In India sounds like a great idea! it could stretch from like the 1500s to the 1900s! Great idea! lost of opportunity for tech advancement and great events! Alright I'm hpyed lets start the contest right now!

Sure I'll judge...but if I don't get ToT in time then we need a second judge for the ToT scenarios.

Some other suggestions for asian scenarios: Boxer revolt in China in the early 1900's, Dutch-English(-Portugese) war(s) for dominence over south-east asia (not just India, but all the way from India to Australia).

I vote for the "Dutch-English(-Portugese) war(s) for dominence over south-east asia". After all, how many scenarios do have the Dutch as players?
Cool, then i will be able to replay all our massacres!

It would be prudent to narrow the options a bit by first deciding on what version(s) of Civ will be used. If we choose to include ToT then we should choose a theme that lends itself to multipule maps and advanced events.

I think we should stick with FW until there are some more ToT scenarios. So far there are very few ToT scenarios out there.

I would be glad to run the contest through SLeague if Reismark doesn't want to do it again.

"I would be glad to run the contest through SLeague if Reismark doesn't want to do it again."

What, are you crazy or something?
Of course I'd want to do it again!

However, let's wait a couple of months before we start up contest 3: say sometime in February. I want to get HAC Awards 2000 moving pronto, and have the community focused on that (Modpack Mania, unfortunately, is going to wait).

And here's my own idea: it's sort of a hypothetical historical/fictional mix. What do you suppose would happen in a war between India and Pakistan? I suggest that SDC #3 explore that.

I've rallied for it forever, lets do an alternate history contest. Entrants must pick a point at which history diverged from the real world (say list it in the readme), and pick up a scenario at any time along the hypothetical timeline. That should give everyone enough latitude to do what they like. Not quite historical, not quite fantasy, but a nice mix of both.

Sure there are very few ToT scenarios out there. What better way to get some than by having a ToT scenario contest? We could leave it very open as to the genre, so that a variety of types are generated.

I agree with blackclove. I would really like to see more scenarios about asia.
Perhaps about the Khmer Empire in south-east asia? They had an astonishing history, coming out of the jungle conquering almost all of south-east asia or about Indonesia and the dutch reign there.

Something really new might be a scenario about polynesia, the aboriginals in Australia, the Maori or Hawaii.

Another great idea: A scenario about the Easter Islands. There has never been a scenario about that!

great idea for a scenario!

title - "The Mystery of Easter Island"

the scenario could either be historical, fictional or straight fantasy! but the parameters would be it would have to take place on a standard issue map (made by some great map maker out there), take place in a time line before the europeans showed up, and explain the giant stone heads!

great idea!

other ideas --

The British Raj
The Seminole Wars

Lots of good ideas here. I'm taking notes - keep suggesting

I'm with Cam on the date, too, February is too far off. Why not start around Thanksgiving time and let people have until sometime in the Spring to finish?

ADDED: For non-Americans, Thanksgiving is at the end of November in the USA. Sorry for any confusion.

Blackclove, Cam.... can we compromise on the date issue? How about sometime around Christmas?? It'd be a good way to kick off HAC's second year (for those of you who don't know, HAC's official birthday is Christmas Day).

And if we're going to start #3 this soon, some key things need to be worked out - the topic and the portability issues. I suggest we do an alternate history themed contest and run it under both FW/MGE and ToT: Each platform gets judged separately (MarkL does "typical" Civ, while we find someone else to work the ToT end).

Great Idea Mr. Temba, that Easter Island thingy?

Christmas! I suggest we start at midnight tonight!

What about the format? ToT or FW? By spring even the hold outs will all have ToT and will not be interested in playing FW scenarios.
