Assuming this report is true, I think this means jail time for Kobe. While Kobe could claim it was simply the result of rough sex, I think it is very unlikely that a jury would buy that story. It also seems improbable that these wounds could be self inflicted, especially since medicial experts could examine them to determine whether they were the result of a sexual assault. If nothing else, this definately shows that there is more evidence than Kobe's word against the victim's in this case.

well unlike some people here at Apolyton I don't assume most males are rapists.

Considering he didn't ever display any violent behaviour towards women before this, I had trouble believing it.

I do consider people to be innocent before proven guilty.

but it's tough denying the physical evidence.

So obviously Kobe's defense team's legal strategy is going to be the "I'm hung like a horse defense." This could end up with the prosecution demanding measurements and the size of a specific piece of Kobe's anatomy becoming part of the public court records.

Its confirmed by multiple law enforcement sources the paper talked to, and I can tell you that as one of the two major local papers, the Rocky Mountain News is generally rather careful about what it would publish as frontpage news stories. If the story is wrong, it would be extremely embarrasing for the paper and harm its credibility as a news source. While its not impossible that the story is incorrect, I would be extremely surprised if this was the case.

I wouldn't be. Any newspaper story based on sources is suspect. Trust me, I'm a journalist. And if that doesn't convince you, may I point you towards that paragon of journalistic integrity, the BBC.

As Ming said on another thread, there is still the "slut and rough sex" defense". This isn't in itself evidence that the sex was rape, but this definitely can help the prosecution build their case.

Hell, there is a small amount of "vaginal trama" every time a woman has sex. I suspect the prosecution is releasing this junk in an attempt to bias the jury pool.

What were the injuries though ?? Abrasions and bruising can be just as consistent with rape as with consensual sex. He is a rather large man and if he were simply a little vigorous in his approach, some injuries are possible.

But as it stands, we just don't know. Unless there is some convincing evidence otherwise, it will come down to a " he said- she said" where he has to get the benefit of the doubt if he tells a reasonable story. '

I really hope he is not a rapist. Its always a sick crime but somehow it seems worse if a rich, powerful and attractive person does it.
