Yes this seems the best solution, even if at some point I have academic credentials on my old name. I love my dad, but I would have no problem changing my surname, since I'm not that close to the rest of his family.

It's not about ownership but signifying the 'two becoming one flesh' concept.

Right, so how about this as as hypothetical situation: a woman marries and takes her husband's name, then divorces him some years later, keeping the name. Would it be wrong for her to keep this name if she decided to remarry?

Probably easier to take her name, than to come up with something different. Especially since anglicising my name might be somewhat difficult.

My idea is that each person should have 2 surnames, a maternal and paternal one, so my name would be Taylor Schnachshnieder Selseth, Shnachshnieder from my mom and Selseth from my dad. My neice would then be called Skylar Schnachshnider Bjorgan. the father gives his paternal name and the mother gives her maternal name.

That's what we do in Spain. Except that the father's name goes first, of course.

NO, NO, NO! The Mom gives the Maternal surname and the dad gives his paternal surname. it is allways 2 Surnames.
