	Results Day Support Apolyton, buy Civilization: The Boardgame

As I'm sure many of the British people here will know, tomorrow is the day that AS and A-level results are released. I was just wondering who's taken them, what you need, where you want to go with them, and if anyone is brave enough to post their results tomorrow morning.

I am dreading it. I'll have to go up to school at 10am, and be told what my future will be. May sound melodramatic, but tomorrow will decide if I go to university, or have to take a year out, find something to do, then try to re-apply, with massive odds of getting in again I hope that doesn't happen.

Because of the new AS system, people have a much better idea of what they'll get (we've taken half the exams last summer), but still, it's very touch and go for me. I fluked last summer big time, and just hoping I've held on enough. As Clear Skies said after we got the offers, I would kill for an AAB offer right now

Oh god no. That would be too much.

York's terms start really late, so I should have three weeks at home after he disappears... that's all I meant.

My brother has applied to MMU at Alsager to do some sort of Sports Science course.

3 weeks late? How late is that, and how does it work? Oxford's are a week late, cause of the 8 week terms, but I didn't think others did. If I get in, I leave same day as my older brother. Didn't get to see him this summer though (he got a scholarship to CalTech for the summer).

York's autumn term this year starts October 6th. A good proportion of Universities are off and running by mid-September.

It made the whole thing much less stressful actually. I was so nervous about being on live national television that I almost forgot I was supposed to be getting exam result.

Yeh, but Nottingham has Semesters doesn't it? So starts early? I know many are earlier, though i think all I applied to were October starts. I start on the 8th I think (my birthday ) but freshers week beforehand

Might be one of the few people to do Freshers week at Oxford and Cambridge (went and stayed with my brother )

My brother is (well was as he's just graduated, but he's staying for a PHD) at York, I started before he did but then finished before he did so it evens out pretty much.

When I went some of them had connected a Playstation upto the big screen before people started arriving

His name's Andrew...he's (was at least) on one of the badminton teams I think, not sure apart from that. Dunno what he's going to do this year.

As someone who graduated from high school this year, but in a different country, could someone explain to me the Canadian equivalents to terms like "A-level" and "AS system"? If possible.

They're what you study for (usually) between the ages of 16 and 18, just before University.

So an "A-level" is like a departmental exam? You have an "A-level" for Math, one for Biology, etc.?

Are there "B-Level"s for... slower... children?

What is an "AS System"?

Do you just write these "A-levels" at the end of high school? Or do you have to do them every year?

Sort of, yes. But they're not called B-Levels. They're more vocational and less academic.

It's where you take half an A-Level in one year. It's a daft system that's only been recently introduced.

You study for your A-Level exams for two academic years between the ages of 16 and 18. Results are decided by coursework throughout the two years and exams at the end of the second year.

Before that, however, the kids will have taken their GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education???) exams, which also take 2 years (10th and 11th grade). The less academically gifted kids leave at this point, not many people do A-Levels without then going on to University (although it's perfectly possible to do so, just unusual these days).

It is usual for people to take 10-13 GCSEs and 3-4 A-Levels.

Can do pleanty. It's a language degree so you can virtually do anything with it, plus the demand for Russian speakers is skyrocketing and will carry on to do so
