	so, who IS in now? Tired of ads?

now slowly i'm getting a bit mixed up, what civs are in c3c and which ones are just in scenarios.

following have been officially confirmed for the standard civs:
- hittities
- sumerians
- byzantines
- dutch

thunderfall (the guy from cfc and one of the beta testers) also confimed portuguese as a main civ.
so that's 5 of 7 definite.

then there are the maya and inca, which some say they are just in the central american scenario and some say they're in all games.

i've also heard/read rumors about the polish, khmer and other civs.

who can tell me, which civs are going to fill the last two spots?

You need to add the Inca and Mayans to the official list, which makes all seven.

Sad, really.

I'm hoping they will allow room to add more civs, instead of replacing them, otherwise I'm going to do a lot of replacing.

as it is now , the max room is 32 , minus one for the barbs that leaves 31 civs , ...... so it shall be loads of replacing , ....

Indeed, the Mayans and the Incans should be a major Civ (animated leaderheads and UUs are a strong indication of that)

I have never seen anything substantiated about the Khmers, the Poles etc. These rumours must have been started by people wishing they'd be there.

I too will replace quite a few Civs then

The unit doesn't have combat stats but any tile where one is stationed in generates +1 food.

As far as I know, everything said at CFC wasn't edited.

I know some people wanted a civ, such as Ethiopia. But here is the civ list, and I'll tell you where I found this info.

Sumer - Firaxis press release
Mayans- Ditto
Incas- Ditto
Hatti - The first screenshot had a Mursilis leaderhead

All these were later confirmed in other previews.

Dutch and Portugese - Hinted in a preview, virtually confirmed by Thunderfall

Byzantine - Apparently some TV show had them.

That's it - Jeff from Atari said that so far, they were advertising for 7 civs. Since the game is due to be released in the fall, and all official statements haven't changed, we can assume that they won't.

Unfortunately, I think I started that rumour. Don't think its true but it would be interesting to see. How about The Vatican (Expansionist, Religious) or the Amish (Agricultural, Religious)?

amish? maximal tech rate would be 10% or they could only research mechanical (and not electronical) techs?

hm... now that i think about it:
after military and cultural expansion, an idea for civ4 could also be commercial conversion... as soon as you have discovered capitalism (the corporation), you can buy stakes and recieve a percentage of their commerce. the buy-in-price gets more expensive the more commerce they have. but as they grow, you'll profit... eventually you can take over control of the city (when you posess more than e.g. 66% of all)

That strangely reminds me of Call to Power. You couldn't get the city, but you sure took most of its riches when implementing a "daughter company" in. The idea sounded fun at first, but the cycle of sending capitalists, and let them countered by lawyers, rinse repeat, was boring in the end

Despite your , it sounds quite accurate to real life. Perhaps you couldn't take over a city with a 66% stake unless you were in a MPP with the target civ...

I suppose the Dutch would either get a ship of some sort, or a Fokker fighterplane.
