I don't think so. Actually, the piece didn't have a tagline indicating who wrote it, so I assume it was the editor (who has written other pieces that involved some critique of Arab societies, and who was on NPR a few months back). I suppose it's possible that Hezbolla might whack him, but I doubt it.

One theory I read was that this attack was a way of keeping the occupation in American only hands. If even the UN will be hit, then what chance will other countries' peace keeping forces have to remain above the fray? No, the Phoney President can't go hat in hand to the UN or his allies to get troops from them. By attacking the UN, they have managed to ensure this remains an American quagmire.

I wouldn't be surprised. "An eye for an eye" and family vendettas are common in Middle East if I haven't gotten things completely wrong. Not that there is much left of the bomber to hunt, but they might go for his family if they find out who the cadavera in the truck was.

The problem with this theory is that UN forces have been attacked numerous times in the past in many countries.

So, what makes it a crazy conspiracy? Or do you think I meant by this that the Americans were behind it and not Ba'athists? Seems clear to me that it stops the US from doing something it wants to do, which is to get troops from other countries involved. I don't know how you could then think that I was saying the Americans were behind this.

Attacking the UN, especially when it's the USA and not the UN who is to blame for Iraq's current situation but rather is only trying to make things better, is very very lame.

Extremists always tend do such stupid things which don't even benefit their original causes or their own people....
