Maybe the World will more and more develop into a mix of 1984 and "Brave new World" (from Aldous Huxley)

recently it has been looking like 1984, but the general trend is still towards a BNW type scenario - unless there are more large scale terrorist attacks.
if you look at aspects of society, they are rapidly approaching BNW. Genetic engineering, prozac, even modern pop culture in general. Advertising, music, movies etc etc made to be quick thrills and compulsive buying, lots of young people are completely losing touch with the past. Old things are always seen as worse than new things. We are only a few steps away from feelies, human cloning, soma holidays. Although it might never be on the same scale as BNW, it doesn't seem to be that far away.

There is nothing new about the above, Plato was describing this sort of society in 'Republic' when Socrates was telling everyone what a 'Democracy' is like.
With a society like this, it is inevitable that an intellectual backlash to it comes about.

The dancing baby from the intro of Ally BcMeal is from the demo animations in 3DSMax. They came standard with every licensed copy of 3DSMax.
Did the show license that? Gosh, I sure hope so.

Notice how we even have the revisions of history, regimes that were friendly allies in the past suddenly become hated harbingers of terror, and the military/financial or technical assistance previously provided to them by us is suddenly no longer fit for serious consideration in any contemporary discussion regarding the current evilness of said regime.
Here's some Neo-NewSpeak translations, I'm sure not all of you will agree with them.
Stable government : A government that we can do business with that is secure.
Terrorists : Paramilitaries with whome we disagree.
Freedom-Fighter : Paramilitaries with whome we agree.
Bloodless war : A bloody conflict where no western troops were harmed.
Market Forces : Financial Forces.
Free Press : Media organisations controlled by market forces.
Freedom : A fuzzy word that sounds nice and can be used in various circumstances to convince people to support all sorts of things.
Democracy : Government that can easily be influenced by market forces.
Crisis of Democracy : When the majority of a population develops an active interest in politics.
The Enemies of Freedom : A fuzzy term that sounds scary and can be used in various circumstances to convince people to support all sorts of things.
The Loony Left/Communists/Fringe Groups/Fanatics : People who don't buy the propaganda prepared for them, or debate under the approved assumptions.
Conspiracy Theorists : People who beleive that conspiracy organizations [such as the CIA] engage in conspiracies.
Mainstream Politics : The arena of approved political debate, where correct assumptions are never questioned.
Military Intervention : Military invasion to intervene into a situation where said military was not previously present.
Worlds Policeman : An imperial power still in the closet about being an empire that must nonetheless carry out imperial actions and cast them in a positive light.
Liberals : Harmless idiots whose sensitive souls nonetheless mewl within the terms of approved assumtions. The nice cop.
The Right : Hard nosed realists who are fair minded but do not tolerate fools gladly. The bad cop.
Political Correctness : A set of demands by irrational factions that have taken over our society and whose ridiculous influence must be beaten back by all right-minded folk.
I may post others later.

i think orwel's book was much more relevant there.
