Lots of good points with conservatism, just two more to add.

Generally, conservatives rely upon tradition, in the sense that if things worked well before, why should we change?

Secondly, conservatives have a fundamental concept of man as generally corrupt, regardless of the society. You must first work on the people before you will see any change in society. This would be the source of Hobbes' quote of, "Nasty, brutish and short."

Not really. Most conservatives want to see a smaller state so that the individual can better manage their own affairs. This manifests in freedom of religion as opposed to the establishment of a state church.

Enforcement of traditional morality tends to be limited to marriage, although many religious conservatives favour getting the government out of the business altogether.
