800AD: the Celts are in deep trouble, but at least nobody will bother me for a while. Bismarck is happy to announce that we added the Sistine and Leo’s to our collection. Our treasury is up to 1’150 gold and banking is our in 15 turns.

900AD: another milestone. The German High Command decided that a short war with Russian would give us a few more cities. As a result, we have now Horsemen-in-Steel and our treasure is down to 50 gold.

1080AD: our scouts suddenly spotted lots of Spanish units heading our way. The German High Command is splitted: some believe that they come to help us against the Russians, others think they will backstab us. A decision is taken by Bismarck: let’s make peace with the Russian (we captured 4 cities) and let’s our armies move north.
In the meantime, our units would make the Mobile Maginot Line (it was fun to see all these Spanish units going up and down our line, every time we opened it for a turn…)

1265AD: the German-Spanish war was short and brutal. We lost about 10 units, the Spanish about 50-60. Now it’s history.
Another upgrade later, we are going to war against the English: they gobbled up most of the Celtic lands and are now our biggest threat.
We got SmithTC thanks to a providential GL.
We got Navigation and the trace on the map is our newest ocean-faring Caravel. It retraces the ‘steps’ of a previous suicide Caravel which, well, suicided.
What will we discover? Just stay tuned, folks…

1280AD: … a land of plenty! Lots of civs (yeah, great discovery), all behind us in techs and with plenty of gold! We are going to, well, exchange goods and technology.
Back home, Bismarck has a new plan: M+H (money+happiness).
The German-English war was a short one. 4 more cities joined our Empire. As an afterthought, we also took the last two Carthaginian cities. Bismarck wanted to bathe in our Inner Sea…

1300AD: the extortion (sorry, the trade) is over for the time now +3’500 gold and the ‘new’ civs are still behind in techs… The Continental Celts are down. We are in Democracy (we have to call Bismarck President, now).

The strategic plan is to take the 5 cities on the N-S axis, plus the two nearest our border.

Hey TT, I love the graphics style on your screenshots, what system do you have: Apple, Linux??
Sometimes my screen starts to get on my nerves because it seems so bright, like there is a perpetual heatwave in the game.
By the way nice thread guys, but (personally) I think you should indicate here and there why you take certain decisions, especially concerning diplomacies.
I found, after moving from monarch to emperor, that I would reserve the end of each turn to diplomacies, unless I was on the process of starting a war or ending one - nothing like getting one last city before suing for peace at the end of your turn (but maybe that's too obvious for you guys).
I found that writing a dated log of ROP and MPP popups (between the Civs), as well as reasons why I took certain decisions would help me when returning to games after a few days of not playing.
On the gold issue, in my last game I kept a constant large reserve of gold after securing the Great Library. I would rather sell the AIs techs and slowly drain them of money - instead of allowing them to store it - so as to limit *any* trading among them - I just have this feeling that any form of trading would help their attitudes towards each other and I didnt want them all coming down on me lol. Also knowing the AIs' tech research preferences under certain situations is a definite must in emperor and something that was never an issue for me in monarch. For example, being relatively new to emperor (and Civ3 in general) I found that civs tend to go for Map Making before Literature - which makes the Great Library that much more easy to build.
In the end, I got a few new points from your discussions - so -thanks.
