I am not going to dig through months of news on Iraq, but I heard what I heard, and you just saying I am wrong doesn't cut it buck-o. Perhaps they were discredited, but I didn't read anything on that... I also have seen them use missles and retreive shells of what could be used for such WoMD...

Well gee I just heard that pigs have wings. But I'm not going to.
look for a source.

Saddam didn't want to lose face as an Arab strongman. Backfired badly, I would say.

Don't be too sure about that. A sure way to keep US army out is the possession of WoMD. Not enough in his case, but enough for Russia, China, Pakistan and North Korea.

If we assume that Lawrence is correct and Saddam did destroy the weapons and this is his reason for not proving it, the point about his stupidity stands.

A repeat offender, especially one without a big brother controlling/protecting him, is not allowed to have access to such weapons.

Which was the reason the UN inspections were there. And they were successful in their quest.

A Lt. Com USN Retired now working as a teacher at my school told me this a few days ago. If you sit back and think about it for a minute it start to may sense.
The Inspector did find all of his WMDs, but Saddam kept hinting that he had more hidden somewhere, why, this why.

He did not want sanction lifted from his country. With sanction in place, he (Saddam) control everything and everyone. If a family wanted food, medicine, clean water, or anything else, the only person that could give it to them was Saddam and his party.

If the UN lifted sanction, than food, water, medicines would be flooded into Iraq, and it would be a lot harder to control. All of those UN personnel running all over the country giving out good to who ever needed it. He could not stop it. So he play his little game with the UN and America. He also knew without a doubt that France, Germany, Russia, and China would not vote for the US to invade, because he had paid very well for their guarantee with those contract to make him have more control than he already had.

There it is guys don't believe or do believe. Kept this in mind however, Saddam did think we would invade in 1991 either.

I've never defended Saddam as a ruler or a person. Being a shitty ruler however is not enough reason to invade, because, I'll tell ya, there are lots of shitty rulers in the world.

Tired of ads?

quote:
Bullshit. Hitler used the same victimization argument to gain concessions from the Allies and his appetite only grew larger with each one. Do you honestly believe that OBL and all those Taliban freaks are any better?

HItler's case is different. He was saying that Germans in other countries are getting mistreated. OBL is not saying that. He is saying that Arabs in Arab countries are getting mistreated. Thats a significant difference. OBL's organization is allowed to operate because it has support of the civilian population; they hide him, supply him with food, money, shelter, and recruits. Take away that support, and his infrastructure collapse.
