I say keep the K and MI at with Cats...

I concur that FL 6 and the 2 Pikes on desert make for tasty bait.

Edit: On the other hand, they can't see Barca 44... although presumably they are at least poking forward for a look-see and pulling back.

Sorry again about not being available all afternoon.

I'm not sure of the intent of this question... as I see it, the 3 Workers will road FL 6 ASAP, the Settler will move to the FL tile next turn, and presto, a connected forward base.

BTW, I know that cutting iron via pillaging and re-roading Barca 89 is a priority, but we will also want to road (and protect) Barca 61 and 6.

Put an end to popups!

You know, I never thought of something...

How does "true fortify" work? I know if you have moved the unit that turn, it is not true fortified... but what if you don;t move and fortify? Is that true fortified, or does it not kick in till the next turn?

In other words, does it matter if you right-click and fortify the stack at FL now? Obviously not for this turn, but for the next?

Edit: Can't hurt.

I'm wondering why the hurry to get there ahead of our ability to maneuver (the settler for the city).

When we cut that road, we get the iron back, until we repair the road and send the iron back to RP. From that point we can upgrade the swarms that are being created in the barracks cities.

We have to repair it immediately and reestablish the lux trades with RP, or they could have some problems. We could too. No sign of WW yet in our cities, but...

Re moving forces ahead of the Settler:

I had thought of going with slowmovers only, hiding the Knights until and after FL was established (the lack of visibility, against a team of smart human opponents, makes this feel like the chess matches that were WWII sub battles).

I worry tremendously, however, about those unseen Riders and Ansars, and think we have to push GoW and ND (especially) into action, even if that's running away.

FL and its vicinity are a clear hot spot, and by pushing forward we have gained control of one of the key, high ground vantage points of the battle field. We will also have extra strength (true fortified) when FL is built.

OK. I'll buy that for a dollar. It helps greatly if the player understands what you want to accomplish, then he/she may not fight you on it. In fact, he/she may assist towards the goal. Just something I learned from the ISDG.

Doing wf and builds.

Nathan was outspoken in his preference for a swack load of wc's for upg over spears and horse (unless a horse could be done as fast as a wc). I am prone to agree with him. What do you all think?

FYI, for those watching from the sidelines, assuming GoW pokes a Rider one tile towards our forces in this vicinity, they will see 22 military units and 4 'Workers'.

If they scout from the south, they'll see 10 combatants and 8 Cats on the hill at FL 63.

I honestly don't know what I would do in their combined shoes.

Maybe leave every captured city in the south empty as bait (for abandonment if threatened), and jointly attack Pamplona with the existing forward troops and Toledo with the second wave?

Suffering from ads?

Sorry for not being clearer on intent, nye. And btw, I'd like to say that your thoughts on FL 96 / Barca 44 trumped my original thinking, and I very much like the configuration of our forces as they are.

Re GWs, well, you can't really go wrong with'em.

( that's what I originally wrote... I meant WCs, of course)

We do need more mountain / hill pickets though... can we coordinate with RP for them to possibly fill that role? I know it's sort of inglorious (right word?), but clearly GS will be providing the offensive punch.

Going back to an earlier thought about WHERE we need those pickets, I would add Pamplona 336, as an enemy jump point for FL 89.

OK. I am going to go with wc's. As many as possible. Changing from spears. I will assume that a 2 turn horse is better than a 2 turn wc, duh. However, a 5 turn horse is probably better than a 4 turn wc, yes? That is 6 shields converted to 20 gold (saved). I know the total for the upg is 20 gold for 10 shields, but our problem is going to be the sheer amount of gold needed, I think converting some few shields to gold will be good instead of all the other way around, gold to shields.

People were wanting to use him to go after the ND MI.

We will have scads of boats going up the coast for the next few turns, and we have a pike at Tole 6 9 that sees well beyond the view from the jungle.

Is that alright?

If the mountain Pike sees all the way to the coast, sure.

Wellll, I'd personally still want Nephew of Grog in the way of any 3-move b*stard trying to sneak down the east coast. I'm fine either way though.

Otherwise, go ahead with the turn... I am going to try to catch up on other stuff (including the ISDG).

Increase Your PM Length

We have larger problems than that.

We are 10 hours late. That is assuming that it is OK to take a full 24 hours for a turn. This past turn both ND and GoW blew the 24 hour rule all to hell as well. We have set a very bad example to others in our time to play turns. The game is going to slow to a crawl if something is not done.

By the time I began to collect orders for this one, we were already over 24 hours, and then I have just spent the last 6 and a half hours getting a turn done. Even if there were no restrictions on us for turn times, there are restrictions on our players as to how much time can be set aside for this in single sittings.

Therefore, I have posted two new threads. The Spartan Academy and Adam Smith's College. The warriors and Economists should feel free to go nuts in those threads. However, when the turn arrives, I will look to the turn thread and those for guidance in playing the turn(s). If there is nothing for me to follow, I will do as best I can.

We must cut down the time it takes us to play our turns. We must make the task of playing our turns managable. I hope we can all work together and make these two things happen, and that a happy consequence of us being better organised will be victory.

Well done, nye, re Spartan Academy and Smith's.

Let me ponder the overall military strategy, and perhaps wait for Arrian on Monday, and we'll get some general guidelines up.

I hadn't thought it, but, much like in the ISDG, I see the value of having a stated strategic plan.

Upgrades and Iron Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

Are the units on Stormia heading north to open a second front on the GoW, or is it something to do with an Iron switch - or both?

I gather the plan is to upgrade in about three turns. How does the iron work? I see we are supplying ours to RP, and that Lego has 'Fine Iron' (why is it named so?) available.

Do we trade with Lego for Iron, or, (I assume it's this one) cut the supply to RP? Do we then reconnect to RP and continue building cheapies for the next batch? How would this work - physically or diplomatically?

Has anyone ventured that a marketplace in Arashi might pay for itself militarily?

Gold is part of the our military machine - if we are intending to use the iron switch long term, we might want to think of gold supplies.

btw - how did the FP get there?

Sorry if my dumb comments annoy, but I have to get a feel for what's going on somehow

We intend to attack GoW, but we're not sure yet on where exactly to strike.
We will upgrade our troops by reconnecting one of our sources of iron (we have fast, industrious workers and many of them).
Fine iron: must be a game thing. 'Fine iron', 'Fine silks', 'Fine horses' etc'...
Marketplace: interesting point. I'll leve it to the economists to ponder over the implications of this.
FP: AFAIK the plan was to build an FP in a city that is capable of building it by itself, and later relocate the palace to Elipolis or Bob. Some details have changed over time but the principles have remained intact.

Stealth Settler and City Plans Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

I noticed the fortified worker/settler unit at Barca 4 4, with a worker label and settler graphic - is it the 'stealth settler' someone referred to - if so, how does that work?

Is the plan to build a military-base city called Fort Liberation on the hill at Barca 4 4 4 1?

Is that granary in DVille a prep for some settlers?

Are we intending to build on the nearby spices by that ruin on the coast between Barca and Murcia?

Its just a settler that has been renamed worker. As they have the same stats, the enemy won't know its a settler and not just a worker.

AS for your other questions, I don't have the answers.
