I can't see what's wrong as long as it's not sponsored by the school. It's a crime to restrict the poor kid, is the club racist? potentially so. Is it our right to say that she cannot nurture her own (potentially) hateful ideals? I would have to say no. Especially since the club was not evidentally (proactively) racist.

It restricted membership based on race, yes. But why do we care. Don't join the damn club, protest the damn club if you want to. But do not force restriction on the damn club.

The second quote is true, it will divide races. But what this 'Turner' woman overlooks is that EVERY OTHER STINKING RACE CLUB causes the same problem. If you look at it that way it is morally wrong, but so is every other club based on race.

So, I believe that it is wrong, but so is every other club based on race and so I can't see how they could be denied. If there's a French club and a German club do we deny the English club the right to meet, because that is the dominant language?

Actually, I was invited to join the club by it's president, who sat on the student Executive Board with me. She and I were pretty good friends. Umoja threw kick-ass campus events, consistently drawing the best crowds. Not bad, since the campus had about a 11% black student population.

Of course, it wasn't like it wasn't a smart move on my friend's part. Especially since I was the Finance Committee chair and was in charge of allocating funds to clubs...

but using your own daughter as a tool to do so? that's reprehensible. if he has the balls to sue, he should have sued himself.

if this girl is a front, it will be absolutely shameful--the person behind her should stand up like a man and do it himself, not use some child as a proxy.
