Poly chess ch. group 1 MtG - ljcvetko Put an end to popups!

If you're too busy to keep track of this many games (since you've got a lot going by replacing zorbop), then you can let this one trail behind. I figured I'd at least get the thread started.

Going against a lot of people's advice, but I was always too lazy to get into all the variations of the Ruy Lopez, so King's Gambit was my opening of choice against 1. ... e5.

I don't know why I played 1... e5.
I wanted to play 1... d5.

It's never too late though

Dr. Tarrasch wouldn't have been pleased.

Playing only pawns

It's contrary to former champion Alekhin's theories of centre control by means other than pawns.

Ah well, what the hell, it's pawn dance right now.

1. e4 e5
2. f4 d5
3. exd5 exf4

(It's not necessary to emphasise with an x symbol that a piece was captured. Nevertheless, I respect your stile of notation and we may continue this way.)

By the way, what's the English name for pieces other than pawns (i.e. a common name for queens, rooks, bishops and knights)?

I normally do the short form algebraic because I was addicted to ECO (oh for the days of ECO updates and the Yugoslav Chess Federation) and Shakhmatny Byuletin, but I noticed more people here using the longer "x" version.

Pieces other than pawns are generically referred to just as "pieces"

4. Nf3

I'm more used to this short notation by far.

Yeah, you know I'm from Belgrade, capital of former Yugoslavia.

You are saying ECO is not being updated today?
Believe me it is.
You can order a CD with complete set of ECO together with all volumes of Chess Informant save the last two for a few hundred dollars.

Tell me if you need a link or something

No, I live in Tijuana, Mexico, but work in San Diego, California.

The name reflects my regional political sympathies, rather than my birth certificate.

The avatar was for the second anniversary of the 9-11 attack. I decided to keep it for the rest of September, so Wednesday I'll have something new.

44 years old and still developing software?

That's like playing chess competitively at 64.
(Well, Korchnoi did it, why can't we?)

I quit programming two years ago (thought I was getting to old to compete with all them young punks).

Old age and treachery always overcome youth and skill.

Actually, the young punks know a lot of mostly arcane crap about the latest thing, but the vast majority of them don't know crap about architecture, design, or project management. I figure I can hire code weenies any time. It's the real work that takes talent.

My kind of philosophy, Michael.

So, am I to understand you are project manager?

I'm too young for such a position. Still, I'm satisfied with the one I have (IT Analyst in the project of computerisation of Serbian Judicial System).

I started my own company a couple of years ago to do industrial software products, so I'm sort of everything. Sounds like you have a pretty decent position.

Partners are a very interesting thing, especially when friends. When you get to that point, make sure everyone understands exactly what their roles are, and make sure you document the hell out of everything you do. People always seem to have a tendency to remember all those early discussions differently.

All the fun variations seem to have white a move behind.

I actually moved from the US four and a half years ago - things are a lot more relaxed here in Mexico, and the housing costs and state and local taxes in southern California are insane.

Most of it, anyway. I didn't want to shock the fish by netting them to a holding tank, moving that, then setting up a new water regime in the existing tank and tossing them back in - most of these fish are around 3-4 years old, and all oversized, reference book examples of their species, so I wanted to disturb their environment the least possible.

They got moved in tank with about 20% of their water, while I saved most of the rest in separate containers, but even with 80% of the water and all the filter and related stuff gone, it was about 60-70 kg load.

Good news is they're all alive and showing no signs of stress this morning - and I think I even have all my vertebrae.
