Has anyone tried using Gramphos's tool on PBEMs?

Yes, Trip used it for the PTWDG after the first crash, and gramphos used it on the latest RoP problem between ND and GoW. You need the admin password to be able to use it though.

Is this because the editor requires it, or because it is really necessary to edit the game? (that is, the game data is encrypted and the admin password is the encryption key).
If it's the former, then the editor can be cracked to access the save without the password, or a new editor can be made, and the possibility for easy, limitless cheating still exists.

The editor requires it. gramphos built in a 'safety' mechansim of sorts that helps keep honest people honest.

There *IS* currently a trainer out there somewhere that *does* work in MP- it's been causing a few problems for the Myleague.com community. We know it allows tech-cheating, but don't know much else about it. Only a few people have gotten ahold of it, so we're really not sure where it's coming from - the distribution would be a lot more widespread if it was easily found.

The problem is that the trainer doesn't even cause OOS in MP, which is usually the trademark of such programs.

If anyone around here manages to dig up a copy of it, I'd dearly love to know - we're trying to find out what it is/what it is capable of so we can deal with it/contact the creator. Obviously, if Myleague stumbles across it, I"ll come back here and let you know what it can do as well.

Yeah, no kidding, Big. I've already started busting people and kicking them clear of the ladder for it. From what we can tell, it may not be a controllable program; people are appearing consistently in the industrial ages very early - 2300 BC or sooner - and displaying medieval units in the late 3000's BC. So we're really puzzled - no cheater *should* be that stupid as to be that obvious, but they seem to be.

If anyone could dig around with any sources they might have and help track this program down, it would bring you the gratitude of the entire MP ladder community as well as I'm sure the more paranoid members of this team. .

We can always go back later and examine saves to see if someone jumped in number of units or tech.

PBEM would be a very stupid place to use any such thing.

So far from what I have seen of the technology curve, that part of it looks very good. It doesn't look like anyone had been playing with that part of the game

As for other PBEM's, It it would likely not happen in a moderated game, because of too much of a risk of being caught.

As for units, that might be another story, because it's really hard to track everything, especially when some people have so much.

You would not believe how stupid cheaters will be. I have caught 4 in the CIV 2 PBEM world and the stuff they tried to pull was just stupid and easily trackable. If an info age challenged guy like me can find em then they were simple believe me!
