Growing empire Support Apolyton

Our empire will be going through a growth spurt shortly. In a few turns Sunshinia will have a settler built and I plan and doing another settler after that. To support the new cities I plan on producing a couple more warriors from Suntanland. In at least one, maybe in both, of the new cities I plan on building a barracks and creating veteran hoplites.

We need to decide where the next two cities will go. Some time ago I created this thread about my early ideas for city placement. This was before we uncovered our southern territory. I still think a desert city is a good place for our next city as it can take advantage of the other floodplain tile for growth, with the forest and hills for production, while still being close to our capital.

I think a good location for our fourth city is SE of the cow.

We have more time to discuss the fourth city. The settler for our next city will be ready in about a week (if the game keeps moving like it has been). For the reasons stated above I like the desert, although we could move it one tile W of the 2 spot on the pic in the other thread if we want to keep it 3 tiles from the capital.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

I had some similar city sites in mind.

Consider some adjustments to the cities in the far west. There are two tiles (the plains tip and forest) that will not get used. Moving the desert city S to the other desert will allow it to use those two tiles and give it the fish tile within its initial border for quick growth from the start.

The city in the west by the mountain is land locked. It will not be able to produce naval units or make use of the coast tiles in that area. I would turn this one into two cities, one SW-SW and the other N-NW.

I also have a problem with the cities in the hills near Sunshinia. Neither of the two cities on the hills will be able to grow past size 2 unless they take grassland tiles away from Sunshinia or other cities. There isn't that much grassland to go around. For now it is hard to see what to do until we reveal some more of the black.

I think our next two cities should be the desert 3SE of Sunshinia and next to the cow.

The changes in the west sound fine to me. The only problem is the new city to the N NW would need some serious jungle clearing to be useful.

I agree on the desert city (SE-SE-SE from Sunshina) for our next city. We're going to need to build the hill city (NE-NE-NE from Sunshina) to get iron.

First we need to build a group of productive cities. The desert then the cattle city. After that, I'd really like to see us put our SEX plan into effect, and claim key territory near MAST and other potential invaders.

Building fast growing cities and granaries is imperative for our long term success. We need to grow rapidly.

That hill city could be just a temporary city until we get other cities in place and our border expands to encompass the iron. I would like to see a better placement for a permanent city.

My plan is to put barracks in the next two cities and have them produce units. I would like to put a granary in Suntanland and have it also produce settlers. Both Suntanland and Sunshinia can grow past size 6 so granaries in those two cities will be of more benefit when we decide to let those cities grow.

In turn 48 we uncovered another iron in the north. If the site near the incense is moved north one tile it will get both the iron and the incense. The new location will also have better growth possibilities once the jungle is cleared.

Agreed.

That city would be on a river and have 2 incense and 1 iron all in it's immediate radius.

Suffering from ads?

We talked about moving the insence city at the top in previous posts of this thread as well as those cities in the far west.

As mentioned before, I do not like the hill city 3-NE of Sunshinia because of its limited potential. OK as a temp city, not a long term city. I would rather see it moved SE-E of that location so it can use those plains tiles to grow.

With the border expansion of Sunshinia the jungle city in the NE will provide enough border to encompass the iron on the mountain and the city in the north will provide both incense and iron.

The city on the plains next to the insland sea could probably move S now that we know more about what is there.

We need to plan where our next two or three cities will go. They will come one after the other in a short period. We need to get both luxuries and iron. Any way we go we will need a lot of worker effort to put roads through those hills and mountains. My preference is to build the next two cities on the hill NW of Sunshinia and the incense/iron area in the N. Those cities will not help establish our border with MAST but they will provide both a luxury and iron. If we go NE to get the iron those cities will help establish the MAST border but we still will not have any luxuries.

We could move the city to the direct NW of Sunshinia one tile to the SW and get some sort of RCP going, unless there was something particularly important about the site NW of Sunshinia being where it is.

We have two settlers coming soon from Sunshinia and Suntanland. After Sunshinia completes its settler I want to build some more workers and then start a template. AFter Suntanland completes its settler we could do one more settler and then start a temple.

So, we will have two settlers out about the same time and a third to follow. Where should the cities go? The way I see it we have three priorities for cities: secure luxuries, secure iron, form a border with MAST. We can get both luxuries and iron by heading north. For the border with MAST we need to go east and south-east.

I would like to put the first city on the hill N-NW-NW of Sunshinia with the second city S or SE. The workers can start working a road over the moutains to the N and then the third city goes in the incense and iron hills up there.

Turn 71 is only a few days away and Sunshinia will complete a settler with Suntanland to follow a couple of turns later. My suggestion is to have the first one settle the site on the hill above Sunshinia and the second to settle the site SE of Funky Town. The first gets us started towards the resources in the north. The second is on the way towards the furs in the south. We already have workers around Funky Town to start improving the area for the second site. After the settler Sunshinia will produce a couple of workers that can start on a road network over the mountains in the north. After Suntanland completes its settler it will start another one which can be used to settle the incense and iron site in the north. The workers will not have the road ready by then but they will be on their way.

I'd like to build the next city 7-7-8 from Sunshina (Hill site).

AND build the one after that 3-3-3 from Las Vegas. That site isn't supurb (does have fresh water for food), but we need to grow a bit towards MAST before they grow into us, and that site helps establish our border.

I think we now need to build to the south east to get those furs linked up. I'm very concerned that our cities are too small and will remain too small until we get a few luxes linked up.

After getting a city in place down there, we should work to road to the north and get the incense/iron city ready.

True, but we need to first settle the two lux spots, and get some iron connected in the process.

Our western cities will be rather corrupt, but they do appear to be some of the better land available.

After building at the two lux sites where should we build next?

Two sites come to mind.

East of Sunshinia and South of Funky Town.

With the expansion into the jungle by both LL and Tab, I think we should probably build the eastern site first. We need to get a presence into the south jungle.

The South jungle can wait. Nobody else is going to try to settle ther anytime soon. We should expand a little more NE and mostly through our whole West.

I think it is time to create another city placement map. A lot has changed since the last one. We have three settlers coming. One is already in Las Vegas and heading to some eastern site, Suntanland is producing one, and Funky Town will produce one as soon as the Colossus is finished. Should the settler in Las Vegas head to the hill site NE of Sunshinia just outside the border, to the plains site on the edge of the inland sea, or the hill site on the northern tip of the inland sea? I like the one on the northern tip of the sea, although I am considering it should be one tile farther north. Still on a hill, still next to the floodplains, but also adjacent to the lake so no aqueduct is needed.

One site I like for the other settlers is south of Funky Town. If we hook up those horses we could trade them to MAST. Another site is in the jungle NE of Sunshinia. It will allow us to hook up the iron on the mountain which I believe MAST also needs.

Here's a new, updated plan:

Post suggestions/changes below. A few notes:

I tried to stay south of the jungle river, as going any further north might get into the Tabemono/LL conflict.

We really should try to grab that icy, southern spice. I put a city right next to it, bottom right corner of the map. I also tried to avoid the obviously MAST land, but they may still encroach a bit.

furthermore, we seriously should get to work at linking up 2 irons and 2 horses so that we can trade. MAST is without both of these vital resources and we oughta help them out ... would ensure our continued peaceful coexistance.

What about a (camp) city between Disneyland and Friendship City? Quite a bit of plains tiles in there that we won't be able to use until we build a cultural improvement in both cities. We could simply use the city as a camp and build a Barracks and then lots .of units, freeing up other cities for other things (Markets!)

A cultural improvement in only one city will fill in most of it by causing the other parts of the border to fill in the one remaining tile. That combined with a city on the hill between FC and HoS will fill in all the interior area. Las Vegas will need a temple once we go to Republic. Even if we change FC to build a granary first it won't be too long before that area is filled in. We have more important places for settler right now like claiming territory and connecting resources.
