I can see why the EU would be up in arms over their election. They certainly can not have such ideas polluting the utopia.

USA under G. Bush I was initially pro-Serbian, but Clinton admin was definitely pro-Croatian. Firm cooperation between Croatia and various US services, including CIA was established under Clinton, with Milosevic as "common enemy".

My understanding is that that the American 'advisors' gave aircover, and military advice on strategy, tactics, and so on, while the regime sent young conscripts in columns doped on various drugs into the Serbian positions.

I presume you are talking about Croatian operation "Storm" in summer of 1995. In that operation occupied Croatian territories were recaptured by Croatian forces. In continuation of the operation, Bosnian Serbs were also defeated, and thus forced to accept the Dayton peace accords, which are still the base for (unstable) peace in Bosnia.

US advisors played a role by giving advice, intel and possibly some aircover. Croatian units on the ground that did the fighting were mostly not conscripts, but veteran guard brigades.

What were the casualties?

I don't know for sure. About a thousand or so on Croatian side and couple times that on the enemy side I think.

Has there been an investigation by military historians into this offensive?

Not as far as I know. But it is not controversial, it is clear what happened and how.

Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

Btw., Tripledoc, if you want to continue discussion on any other issue related to Croatia, ex-Yugoslavia or the Balkans in general I'll be happy to participate, but start another thread about it.

This thread title is pretty misleading and I would prefer to stop bumping it
