If one were to consider the deaths of all declared Christians to count in the total, consider the 1st World War. How many combatants would have been Christians? Probably close to 90%. How many millions is that right there?

So clearly, the numbers are not recording the total numbers of Christians killed even in violent conflicts.

So why don't you and Che both give me your definition of what qualifies a person to be a martyr for their faith.

Read it and find out

It's the first book in a quite good (IMHO) fantasy trilogy.

Monk, no offense, but when I can demonstrate to you, using the text of the Bible, that you are wrong, holding that view becomes silly - it smacks of "Na-na-na-na I can't HEEEAAAR you!"

Oh, none taken. We're simply speaking different languages. That's why we misunderstand each other. When we do speak the same language, everything will be crystal clear.

That's why I retired from the debate circuit. I realized it was quite silly of me to try to argue with someone in English who only spoke Portugese. But it was fun though, I have no regrets.

I've seen several posts discussing Soviet Union -- how many times does Che and other Apolyton commies have to explain that the Soviet Union's government is not what they advocate for today's countries??

Eh. I beg to differ. Preachy and narrow-minded to the extreme. Also, Amber Spyglass was the third book in the series. Golden Compass was the first, then Subtle Knife. I even remember books I hated.

Just had to editorialize. Anyway, the phenomenon of "new martyrdom" is very real. You could argue that they were not technically killed for being Christian, but only because the Party tolerated any religion so long as it wasn't practiced to an extent that threatened the utter supremacy of the state over all authorities. Lip-service Christianity is Commie-friendly, but is that really Christianity at all?

And GePap, selective bastardization of two ideologies into a single mass does not strictly mean those ideologies are compatible. I'm being a real ***** to say this, I know, but didn't Hitler idolize Nietzsche? "Nietzsche's a Nazi! Nietzsche's a Nazi!"

That's irrelevent. One can outlaw religion without killing people. I won't argue Christians weren't persecuted, because they were, but slaughtered for their religion? The only place that's happening is in places like Sudan and Indonesia.

Really? That's what I tell Chinese people when they see me use chopsticks and ask how I learned to use them. You see, I spent five years at a monestary in Tibet to learn to use chopstick, with my left hand, nonetheless. The first three years were spent meditating on chopsticks. Then for two years, I could use just one.

You seem to have confused an ecnomic system (communism) with a political system (e.g. former Soviet Union's government).

I wouldn't be surprised if Buddist and Catholic monestaries are substantially similar, except that one uses a fork.

It is really interesting that people can actually live in communes today (and for the last 2000 years at least) if one is at all religious. At times I think that communism was created simply to extend the concept and practice to the non religious.
