NOTE: I dont want links in this thread, how to's or where. All I want to know is if you download software illegaly instead of purchasing. And if so or if not, I would like to know why or why not.

Basicly, what you think about the whole thing.

I admit I haven't downloaded any software since they started the lawsuits. Go ahead and cally me a pussie- I don't care . I don't want to lose my house I worked so hard for.

The only thing I downloaded was the Paris Hilton video. I sure wish that was of better quality

I dl songs. I will never buy a stereo sytem for I have a computer. Great sound out put, equalizer included and never need to change the cd. Why would I buy a stereo system since my comp can do it all?

The only product I downloaded for free (besides shareware) was Pirates!, the original 1987 game that I couldn't find anywhere but on abandonware sites. I would have paid for it if I could have found it elsewhere.

I only rarely download music, although it kind of comes in waves. In principle, I only "try before I buy", but that buying can take pretty damn long, and I'm kind of torn about the one-hit wonder types. I don't like buying singles.

In any case, I get most of my CD's as presents for birthdays and stuff, the rest I buy in sales or in second-hand stores, usually < €15.

I buy all my games, but then I don't really have or buy any recent games anyway, so when I do buy any they usually cost me under €10... Well, I still have two (very old) games illegally, but that's mostly because I haven't found them in the bargain bins yet.

Software is a little trickier, because (a) it's the most expensive, and (b) it doesn't date well. I don't mind waiting for a game/CD a year for the price to go down, but when you wait a year for other software they'll likely have an even spiffier version out. I use quite a bit of freeware, some software I can get for really cheap since I'm a student, but some I "need" without having the money, ergo... piracy!


In short: I'm against piracy in principle, but it's so easy, and I'm weak. But anyone *****ing about prices should open his eyes. With a little patience and perseverence you can get music, games and other software for a very reasonable amount of money, legally.

If you don't want to pay, period, that's your business, but don't come with bullshit arguments to make yourself feel/look better.
