Che,
quote: It's not superflurous to them. Just because you *sshole-Americans would perfer not to be considered such doesn't mean the rest of us hyphen-Americans aren't proud of our ancesters, our cultures, AND our nationality. |
It's superfluous to me. But I have one question for you. Just one, so riddle me this: When black people are together, do they call each other African-American, or do they use another term that you'd get all pissy if I used?
"Yo African-American, let's chill at my crib"
Come on. When I stop laughing, I'll continue.

OK, finished laughing now. Hehe.
Anyway, if black people (which is what I'm damn well gonna call them if we're making race distinctions - if we're not making race distinctions, I'm just gonna say people) want to be called African-Americans, then let's hear them call each other that.
Whoops. I can't say I've ever heard one black guy, in all SERIOUSNESS, use the phrase "African-American" in casual conversation to describe another black guy.
quote: Serial stupidity in other people brings out the worst in me. |
I'm stupid for refusing to change my vocabulary for people who won't change THEIR vocabulary? Or maybe they're the stupid ones.
****, chegitz, if I had a chip on my shoulder as big as yours, I probably wouldn't be able to stand up straight. And the funny thing? YOU AREN'T EVEN BLACK! Use whatever term you want to refer to whomever you want, and I won't stand in your way. I'll thank you to extend me the same courtesy - ESPECIALLY when the term doesn't even refer to YOU.
quote: No, the reason English-Americans aren't hyphenated is because they are "true" Americans. |
Interesting. So now only white people of English decent are true Americans. Which one of us is more racist, again?
quote: They own the economy, the land, and the government. |
I don't own any land, I have no significant economic impact, nor do I have a say in government. However, I can think of plenty of black people who fulfill any of those things, and plenty of black people who fulfill all three.
quote: There is, however, a special name for them, WASPs. |
I object to being called a WASP. I insist on being called, in your words, "True-American".
quote: We're happy with who we are, and if you don't like it, you can go suck on a piece of Wonderbread. |
I'm happy using the term "black" to describe black people. I'm happy to use the term "American" when describing Americans. I'm happy to avoid PC bullshit. If you don't like it, then YOU can go suck on a piece of Wonderbread. Or you could cry about it some more. Either way, though, I'm not really gonna give a ****.
quote: Next thing you know, he's gonna be telling us how to dress, what to eat, what we can name our children, what kind of music we can hear, which holidays to celebrate, what religion to be, what thoughts we can have, and whether or not we need to visit the special camps. |
Actually, that's what the Communists do.
quote: DrS makes a strong argument. |
Maybe you should take notes.
quote: Black pride is about not being ashamed of being Black, and if you don't think that's a real problem, I would suggest you don't know very many Black people. |
If it's a problem, it's a personal one. It's called insecurity. Face it - no one, outside of a small minority of ignorant ****s, REALLY GIVES A **** what race anyone is. I don't. You don't. My friends don't. Most of the people here don't. My coworkers don't. Some people do, and the best thing to do, if it bothers you, is to avoid those people.
quote: If we want to call ourselves Martian-Americans, just respect that, okay. |
I respect your right to call yourself whatever the hell you want. I'm not gonna call you that, of course, because it's stupid. If you wanna call yourself a Martian-American, go right ahead. But don't refer to each other as one thing, and expect everyone else to refer to you a different way. That's simply
Jesus Christ, politically correct bullshit really pisses me off

I think that currently it's: Yo Dawg, let's chill at my crib." quote:

My folks arrived on the "Sarah Constance". That makes me a "True-American" and you a wetback. quote:

If you had been around before political correctness was conceived you might understand why it's important, but you weren't, so you won't.
