Sorry, but this is OUR capital, not NYE. Now I know that he has done a great many things for the ISDG (and many of those things great), but our capital is bigger than him. Its bigger than all the Consuls put together. It is the sumation of the team. It is outside normal naming.

A simple New Apolyton or The Capitol would sufice.

...er ...um, IMHO that is.

Well... I am certainly biased, because of haveing shared the duties with nye once and because of actually being the first one to come up with the N.Y.E. idea, but I find New Apolyton a bit dull of a name. The subtle pun in N.Y.E. D.C. looks a tad more appealing to me (and I am not even American! ) Plus, from the practical side - it's easier to write NYE or NYEDC than New Apolyton (twice as many letters at least ).

And... to be honest... PtWDG and ISDG have taught me Apolyton is nothing more and nothing less than a bunch of real people. I do not really care about Apolyton itself that much, I care about some of the people here.

For me, personally, naming our new capital in a way that reminds of nye is a fine way of saying thank you. But I believe BigFree did very well bringing this to a vote. Let's see how people feel about that.

Of course this is all bullshit and my real goal is to have nye seize the new capital, while my Karina grabs the FP...

No, and I am strongly against it too.

The capital is a representation of our team. No matter how much effort one person has put forward for the team, it does not compare with the effort we all have put forward.

I do not want our capital named after NYE or DC or Vondrack or me or anyone else on this team.

As it stands, that city is NOT our Capitol. It WILL BE, but not for some time still.

I'm all for changing the name, so that it doens;t point out to the world that we will be moving our Capitol to that spot. Let them find out after we do it and not before.

There is some appeal to "Caughtopolis" but that might be a tad mean. Scratch that one, then.

Hmm, if we wanted to name it in recognition of NYE, Tigertown might suffice (for some reason I just don't like the ring of NYEDC). But then again, I think I agree with those who are saying the capital shouldn't be named after one team member, even one as key as NYE.

I'm really blanking on good capital names that wouldn't necessarily telegraph our palace-jump intentions (as per E_T).

This place is about the people. When Apolyton was down we all went to MZO to carry on. Vondrack stated it correctly. If you care about the people then it's clear that nye is one of those that deserves the recognition. Will other teams treat us differently because of the name I have proposed? Will other teams think that we are honoring a team member with a humble in game subtlety?

MZ: We have been using english letters to name our cities. Are we honoring the English by doing this? Putting D.C. behind N.Y.E. just gives it a little flare. It does not say that we are an American captilist team. Heck, we have a city named Hispanica for crying out loud. Don't read too much into the D.C.portion of the name other than it looks and sounds good.

You know, a number of cities in several DG's have been named after RL cities. That really isn't a problem, from what I've seen. Hell, people have a penchant for naming DG cities after their hometowns, and Washington, D.C. is my home town.

That said, I happen to agree with Trip's argument here. I think the capital should reflect the name APOLYTON, as that is the team's name and represents the team as a whole. I'm highly tempted by the idea of naming a city in honor of NYE and for that city to be the capital because I think he's put a lot into the team and I think he's deserving of a high honor. So I'm willing to admit I'm rather torn on the issue.

I think the balance of my opinion rests with naming the city New Apolyton or something similar, however. I think naming another city in the vicinity after NYE might be appropriate, as would a city named Dominus, as discussed in chat. That region around the new capital is going to be very productive with all of the gorgeous land GCA was never able to properly improve or manage.

I would like to honor NYE by naming a city in his honor, but I also agree that our capital should be a team-themed name, not a city named for an individual.

The idea of naming just a few cities after just a few individuals is why NYE quit in the first place. He was unhappy how a small majority of individuals were making all of the decisions and leaving out the team at large. This honorary city idea has good intentions behind it, but I do think it sets the wrong example.

Vote no on naming the CAPITAL after NYE, but an honorary city, I feel, would be reasonable.

Sheesh, you act as if our Captitol reallly has all that much signaficance to our hearts and minds. So much so that some of you are getting philosophical about it. It's a game. It's the name of a ficticious place in a game. Having the name of our Captitol not representing the whole of Apolyton is not blasphemy. Naming it in honor of nye is just that, an honor. The name of our team is "Apolyton"; everyone already knows this. Giving our Capitol another name does not change this.

You recognize that the capital city is more of an honor than a regular city. If it's just a game and an irrelevant point why do you think it's more of an honor to name the capital city after NYE?

Naming the city "Apolyton" (or some other derivative) is representative of the efforts everyone has put forward. Just as you said, "Everyone who cares knows NYE is on our team."

I (and others) disagree.

As far as naming rights go, the most prestigious is the capital itself. Nothing is higher. Our original capital was named after the team, showing that that which unifies us and that which we respect most is represented with that honor. To name our new capital now after an individual member goes against that precedent, and, depending on how you look at it, does seem to detract from the team's accomplishments. That is the dividing line. Some people think it does, others do not.

The term for a town or city that serves as a seat of government is spelled capital. The term for the building in which a legislative assembly meets is spelled capitol. But, everyone here knows what we are refering to.
